"In
the beginning, when God created the heavens and earth...." --
Genesis 1:1
The Genesis-class, USS Genesis, NCC-85100, currently undergoing final tests, has a gross mass of 567,000 metric tons and is twenty decks thick. The Genesis has a crew complement of 170, and has a sustainable cruising velocity of warp factor 9.9. The ship's computer systems feature the latest advances in bioneural gel. The Genesis also features the latest in science labs and other such eqiptment. In short, the Genesis is well built for Starfleet's mission of exploring strange new worlds.

History
of the Genesis Project
"Thus the heavens and the earth
and all their array were completed." --Genesis 2:1
The Genesis project was first conceived of as a refit of the Intrepid class starship after Starfleet realized that there was a large portion of their starship R&D budget not yet spent. They pulled in all the Intrepid class designers that had not been reassigned, as well as the engineers from the Terra Nova class project, which spared them from an execution.
They first enhanced the basic spaceframe slightly, mainly by the addition of two extra warp nacelles. Then, they made all the decks somewhat modular, and began reworking the ship's internal layout to focus more on science and exploratory missions. The project, led by Terra Nova designer Seamus Hughes and All Around Nice Guy Bob Spurlin, hit upon a lack of design resources until the addition of Lt. Commander Samantha Poland to the project, wherin she was able to push the design forward.
The first prototype of this design, the USS
Genesis, was constructed at the Arbuckle Ship Yards at Zeta
Maxtor, near Starbase 72 1/2. It is currently in service
in the Fifth Fleet.

Engines
"Then the Lord said to Noah; Go
into the ark." --Genesis 7:1
The Genesis Class is
designed to be one of the fastest in Starfleet. It acheives that
by sacraficing weapons and defensive systems to acheive this
goal. It's emergency speed of 9.9 is a rather low estimate. The
quad nacelle design helps by allowing more precise control over
the warp field.

Defenses
"Yet they felt no
shame" -- Genesis 2:25
The Genesis class uses shielding
similar to the Aurora class, but with a refresh rate of
.000000001 jiffies. It has a frequency range 10 times that of the
Aurora, thus making it much more difficult to break through. The
hull is standard duranium coated with ablative armor.

Offensive Capabilities
"The Lord wiped out every
living thing on earth; man and the cattle, the creeping things
and the birds of the air; all were wiped out from the earth"
-- Genesis 7:23
The Genesis class is not designed as a warship, as such, it's offensive capabilities are minimal. It has 6 Type X phaser arrays, providing full coverage with no blind spots, and three Photon/Quantum torpedo tubes. It can hold up to 175 torpedos.

Shuttlebays
"And so it
happened" -- Genesis 24:1
The Genesis class is equipt with two Valhalla class runabouts, in a docking bay located on the secondary hull.

Holographic
and Computer Systems
"God saw how good it was." --Genesis
1:18
The Genesis class has two M-10
computer cores, one located in each hull.In addition, the Genesis
has a seperate bioneural computer core for use in data processing
by the science labs.
