About the Gamemaster Department

As per OGRE, the Gamemaster Department (GMD) is a resource to Gamemasters (GMs), COs, and the membership on matters relating to GMing and in-character activity. The GMD maintains the standards of GMing by means of regulations, as well as maintaining a public record of the status of all registered or licensed Gamemasters.

The daily activity of the GMD is overseen by the Gamemaster Director, who is appointed by the President. The Assistant Gamemaster Director is appointed by the Gamemaster Director and answers directly to him or her.

Becoming a Gamemaster

The first step in becoming a GM is to take the GM Exam located in the Academy. Once you successfully pass the exam (meaning you obtained a grade of 75% or higher), you can begin the rest of the admission process.

You need to have attained the rank of Lieutenant and you must have been a member of STF for at least six months. Also, you must obtain three recommendations from licensed Gamemasters, whom you've served with for at least one month in the past three months. In the event that three licensed GMs aren't available, you may substitute a CO or an XO recommendation.

Once that's all said and done, the GMDir or one of his or her delegates will review your application and make a decision on whether or not you will be admitted into the program.

If you are admitted into the program, you will then have to undertake and pass a GM Training Sim (GMT) on a ship where you will be subjected to regular reviews. If you pass each review then the GM Department will grant you a GM licence accordingly.

Roleplaying Resources

The GMD also maintains a number of resources and archives available to GMs and to the STF membership. The most important of these are:

  • Reference Manual
  • Mission Archive
  • Departmental Mandates
  • STF Map
