Introduction
Internet Rely Chat (IRC) is a way of communicating in real-time, either using a dedicated program such as mIRC, Trillian, or Gaim or by using our Java-based web chat. The #Star-fleet channel has been around for many years now, having undergone a number of changes along the way. It has existed on numerous servers, including DalNet, Webducky, Lameducky, Sorcery, and Esper, before finally returning to Sorcery. Despite these changes, the purpose remains the same: to allow members of STF to get together and chat! Members might chat about anything from the weather to STF issues. The chat may cover a wide variety of topics; however, we do ask that the chat be kept civil and the members keep in mind that there might be minors present.
Channel Access
If you don't already have an IRC program, you can either download one, install the ChatZilla extension for Firefox, use our own Java-based client, or the CGI Client provided by the Sorcery Server that we use..
The following provides information for setting up your own client.
Using an IRC Client
How to use...
If you are familiar with your IRC client, then the name of the server you want to connect to is irc.sorcery.net. And the channel is called #star-fleet.
SorceryNet
Sorcery is the name of the IRC network that the STF channel resides on. They have a very useful channel called #help, where you can get aid. For help with Sorcery-specific commands, you can type the following in your IRC server/status window:
- /msg NickServ help
- /msg ChanServ help
- /msg MemoServ help
Channel Rules
Please read the channel rules before joining #Star-fleet. Ignorance of the rules is no excuse!
