Channel Rules
In order to maintain a friendly atmosphere, the Internet Department has set a few guidelines in play to ensure that all members (and potential members) of Star-Fleet.com can have an enjoyable IRC experience. If you wish to be unpleasant, please do so elsewhere. A simple rule of thumb is to treat other #star-fleet users as you yourself would like to be treated and if you wouldn't post it on our boards, don't post it in our channel.
Please take a few moments to familiarise yourself with the rules below. Failure to comply with these rules, may result in your removal from the channel, either temporarily, or for a longer term. In extreme cases, certain behaviour may lead to the removal of you from the club itself.
- Follow all Sorcery.net rules, and the rules of the server you are using. Those rules will be listed on the server MOTD when you log in to IRC.
- #Star-fleet is conducted in Federation Standard aka English. If you're going to be participating in the chat, it's only fair that everyone can understand what you are saying. If you wish to speak another language other than English - you're more than welcome to create your own channel to do so.
- Please do NOT ask for Operator Status or Ops (that's the @ sign against certain nicks), as put quite simply, you will not get it. So don't waste our time, or yours.
- Do NOT engage in channel takeover attempts (i.e. no denial of service attacks (DOS), no warbots, etc.).
- All bots, IRC games, scripts etc. must be cleared through the Internet Department before use.
- Please refrain from shouting (excessive use of Capital Letters) and the excessive use of coloured, bold or underlined text; spamming or advertising in the channel and / or via notices and private messages (PM).
- Do NOT flood the channel - be this a large amount of content you find to be amusing ( point us to the link instead so those interested can read) or the overuse of any phrases, letters, words or symbols that are deemed to be a disruption to the channel. Flooding of any sort will result in a channel kick by a channel operator (Op).
- Harassment of other users, either in the channel or through messages, /queries, /notices, DCC, or other chat programs is strictly prohibited.
- Do NOT use inappropriate1 language, content, nicknames, topics or quit messages.
- Do NOT impersonate any of our users and / or have more than one version of you in the room at any time. The only exception to this is having a version of you that is on it's way out due to ping / peer or a netsplit.
- Please comply with what the channel operators say. No exceptions.
- When changing the channel topic, include the prefix www.star-fleet.com:
1Inappropriate is defined as material that includes but is not limited to:
- excessive or frequent vulgarity
- vulgar expletives
- explicit content, subject matter, sexual discussions and / or pornography
- racism, hate messages, offensive or personal attacks
- Piracy (warez)
Disputes and Complaints
The above list is by no means exhaustive. In the case of a dispute the situation will be handled by a channel operator. If the dispute is between two channel operators, the matter will be handled by a member of the Internet Department. The Internet Director will have the final say in most disputes, although in serious cases the club President will step in.
If you have a complaint about anything in #star-fleet, direct it to a channel operator, who will in most cases try to sort out your problem. If the problem is with a channel operator, or has not been sorted out satisfactorily, direct that complaint to irc@star-fleet.com for the Internet Department to look at the case. Include any logs of the situation for review.
