Here is the exam for the course, you will need to score 75% to be accepted onto the GM Training Program. Please read it through completely before writing any answers down. The aim of this exam is to check you have absorbed all the information, to emphasise important information and to evaluate a candidate’s ability to communicate using the written word.

  4. Do not use "HTML-enriched" e-mail. It makes it harder to grade.

  5. Word or a Rich Text Format attachment is most acceptable.

Section A: Facts and Mechanics

  1. Cut and paste Homeworks 101,103C and 105 here. 9 marks

  2. Name the new button that will appear on a ship's MOTD when you become a GM. 1 mark

  3. Once inside this mysterious place, which buttons may you use as a GM? What is the limit of your access here? 2 marks

  4. How do you keep a character you add from appearing on the roster? Why might you need/want to do this? 2 marks

  5. Why is renaming a topic not the ideal solution for unused topics? 1 mark

  6. What is the golden Rule when using the admin menu? Clue... the WeBB doesn’t like it if you break this rule. 1 mark

  7. What are the criteria for entering the GM training program in STF? 4 marks

  8. Once accepted on the training program, explain what will happen next. 4 marks

  9. Who is responsible for completing mission records for the GM Archive? When should they be completed? 2 marks

  10. Why do we keep these records? 1 mark

  11. How does a GM become a Full GM in STF? How do they become a Senior GM? 2 marks

  12. Show the chain of command for a GM in STF. 2 marks

  13. When can you kill a player’s character? 2 marks

  14. When is it permissible to completely destroy a ship? 1 mark

  15. Who can void posts and why? How would you void a post whilst minimising any disruption to the ship? 3 marks

  16. Who can issue a death notice? What criteria need to be met? Explain how you might try to avoid issuing a death notice. 3 marks

  17. If a player is giving you a hard time, what should you do? 2 marks

  20. What is it that shows you are/will be reliable as a GM? 2 marks

  21. When and how is it okay for a GM to criticise another player through a post on the ship? 2 marks

  22. Spelling and Punctuation; how important is it that you as GM get them right? Why? 3 marks

  23. What style of posting does STF use? Explain this style now as if to a new member... 3 marks

  24. What is meant by multiple timelines? Give an example. 2 marks

  25. Explain what is considered canon in STF. 2 marks

  26. How do you show someone is using a communicator to speak? 1 mark

  27. Christmas Day is the 25th December, write the stardate for Christmas Day this year. 1 mark

Section B: Show Me the Money

  1. Cut and paste homeworks 102, 103A, 103B and 104. 25 marks

  2. Where did you get the inspiration for your story idea? Why will your story idea make a good sim? 10 marks

  3. A GM has to be able to invent new worlds, new characters and new technology. Show that you can do this by describing one of each. Each answer should be at least two paragraphs. At least one should be related to your sim idea. 45 marks

  4. Looking over the ship profiles, write an email to the Captain of the ship you think your sim would most suit and explain why. Sell your sim to the Captain. Pssst…don’t actually email it, put it here, for 25 marks!

  5. Sometimes a GM is called on to help out a ship. Maybe the GM got sick, maybe the ship has been hunting for a GM for a long time. Whatever the reason, most GMs will help out if they have the time. But this means you may not get to choose the ship as carefully as you would normally. Or maybe a CO likes your GMing and keeps you on board for sim after sim. Show that you can come up with some quick sim ideas for the following... 25 marks

N.B. There are 10 marks floating for good spelling and good English. What? That's not fair? Well, how do you expect to GM well, if you if you cannot put forth your ideas in a clear, concise manner?
