Proposed Federation Map
When the Crag War began to wind down, Commodore Jeff Field and Captian
Larry Garfield decided that it woulde be "neat" for the Crag to join the
Federation, after being freed from evil opressors by Starfleet. This
was done by the USS Alliance, and shortly hereafter the Crag did
join the Federation. However, in the course of discussion as to how
this act was to be achieved it became apparent that a concrete reference
was needed to determine exactly what the annexation of the Crag would ential.
To this end, Commodore Field asked Captain Garfield to draw up a reference
map of Crag space, so that it could be added to the Federation. While
working on this task, Captain Garfield decided that it would make sense
to make the map all inclusive, that is, to make it a complete map of the
Milky Way Galaxy as it is known in Star Trek. With Commodore Field's
approval, Captian Garfield drew from numerous ST references to piece together
a map of the Galaxy, then used the course of events in Fleet Four to modify
it to allow the Crag room to breathe. This map was finalized and
turned into a formal proposal to the STF membership, an act supported by
both Field and Garfield. It was later revised with the addition of
Fleet Five.
There are two maps available. The first is a map of the entire
Milky Way, the second is a close up of "known space." It is recomended
that you open both in seperate windows from this one before continuing.

Quadrants 2
Seen on both maps
-
The Yellow region is the UFP, prior to the Crag Annexation .1,2
-
The Lt. Green is the Romulan Star Empire. 1,2
Prior to the Crag War, it contained the "Western" half Crag space. 3
-
The Purple is the Klingon Empire. 1,2
-
Earth is indicated by the blue dot on the Alpha-Beta Quadrant Border. 2
-
The Cardassian Empire/Dominion Territory is indicated by the Dark Green
region.
-
Bajor is the small dot between the Federation and the Cardassian Empire.
-
The Badlands are the Brown region near the Federation/Cardassian/Bajoran
Border.
-
The Brown-Yellow Region is the territory the Crag conquered while under
the control of the Overlords. It consists of formerly unoccupied
and formerly Romulan territory. This region was added to the Federation
when the Crag joined. The Romulans protested the loss of some of
their territory, however, Federation diplomats instructed the Romulans
as to where they could relocate their forces. This region became
known as the Crag Annexation, and was administered by the Fourth Fleet
with operational center at Starbase 202, in orbit of the Crag homeworld
of Crell.
Seen only on the Milky Way Map
-
The Blue line indicates the path of the Bajoran Wormhole. 2
-
The Grey line indicates approxiamtely from and to where the USS Voyager
was pulled by the Caretaker. 2
Seen only on the map of Known Space
-
The Orange Dot represents the Zeta Alpha system. Crell, the Crag
homeworld, is the third planet in this system. In orbit of Crell
is the Crag and Overlord built Starbase 202, operations center of Fleet
Four. 3
-
The Red Dot indicates the Iggy system. Deep Space 20 is in orbit
of Iggy V, and was captured from the Crag by the USS Alliance in
the early stages of the Crag War. 3
-
Deep Space 19 used to be at the blue dot near the Romulan border, before
it was destroyed by the crew of the USS Montogmery in order to keep
it out of Crag hands. 3
-
East of the Crag annexation is an unexplored region, which subspace radio
has determined contains no large empires or alliances. (GMs should
note this fact.) It is ripe for exploration and first contact
RPGs. 3
-
The Pink Dot to the North is the location of Outpost 42, based on the station's
MOTD.
-
The Blue Dot to the North is the former location of Starbase 117. 3
-
The Sea Green region between the Federation proper and the Romulan Empire
is the Romulan Neutral Zone. 1,3 As yet, the
Federation and Romulans have not agreed upon a Neutral Zone or other border
model for the Crag annexation, which for now bumps up right onto Romulan
space. 3
Also seen only on the close-up map are rough operating regions for the
STF Fleets. Fleet Four's location is based on the premis that it
becomes the primary fleet of the Crag annexation, and the Crag continue
to play a role in that fleet (eg: SB202 has a Crag liason officer,
and we might have a Crag RPG ship). Fleet Three's location is based
on the premis that it is the most "Coreward" fleet in STF. Fleet
Five's location is based on startup situations designed by AFComm-5 Captain
Larry Garfield as an InCharacter excuse for a new fleet. (As opposed
to the real reason which was over population.)
(It should be noted that this arangement for the Crag Annexation makes
a great deal of sense. In the ST: Voyager Episode "Message
in a Bottle" the doctor is downloaded to a Federation ship near the Romulan
border (the Promethius). An examination of the map that Seven
of Nine showed the captain reveals that the alien communications array
streached from Voyager's location in the Delta Quadrant to a point
in the Beta Quadrant, about 1/3 of the way from Alpha to the Galactic Border.
This location corresponds very closely to the edge of the Crag Annexation
closest to the Romulan Star Empire. This quite convience coincidence
was just that, a very convinent coincidence, as the Crag Annexation was
placed several months before "Message in a Bottle" aired.)
Prodigy Fleets One and Two originally controled Beta Quadrant and Alpha
Quadrant operations, respectively, before the creation of the WeBB.
Since then, STF3 has straddled both Quadrants and STF4 is intricately entrenched
in the Beta Quadrant. Therefore, STF1 and STF2 have been relocated
to the central and Western parts of the Federation. This move is
not based on any agreement or historical fact. It is based solely
on my lack of complete knowledge of STF*P IC history, suggestions by FComm-2
Mike Ballway, and on the fact that the *P fleets have between then three
ships, and the WeBB fleets could reduce them to discrete protons if they
complain. (<j/k> If anyone has a better idea as to where
to put STF*P, let
me know.) STF5 was later added between STF1 and STF2, in response to
the reduced number of ships in that area due to the Dominion and Crag Wars.
Slightly above the Galactic Plane, STF5 became known as the "Zenith Fleet"
due to its "higher" placement.
This map is hereby submitted to those who read it for consideration,
either as an informal reference or as the "official" map of STF, or as
something in between.
