All About Larry

You know those "Me" pages that everyone has that you hate reading but read anyway? Well, this is mine.

I'm 18 and live in Evanston, Illinois, a suburb just north of Chicago. Currently attending DePaul University in Chicago, I'm studying Human-Computer Interaction and enjoying the fact that since my parents teach there, I don't have to pay tuition. (Yeah!)

I also consider Microsoft to be the antithesis of all that is benificial for computing, as well as the epitome of all that is wrong with the modern capitalist system. But I am not a Communist either. I believe that everyone has a responsibility to every other member of a society, personal, financial, adminstratively, and otherwise. That's why I support a federal health care system, social security, welfare, and so forth, and make it a point to tutor other students whenever I am able to. Outside of class and STF (which leaves little time, believe me), I am one of the founding members of the DePaul Linux Users Group. While in high school, I was Opinion Editor and Web Editor for my school's major newspaper -- The Evanstonian -- and liked to work in small theater productions at my school as light manager. (I've been working lighting since 8th grade.)

I'm also a die-hard trekie, as you might have guessed. My family has the entire TNG, DS9, and VOY series on tape, and I spend a great deal of time on STF, a STar-Fleet RPG club. (More below.) I'm also a Star Wars fan and think Earth: Final Conflict was cool for the first season, but season two sucks. I was a Babylon Five fan until the show got too pompous for its own good and lost track of what it was doing (late in the third season or so).

Larry Garfield has been an active member of STF since August 21, 1997. For Four years prior to that, however, he was involved with STF from the outside, via his close friend Admiral Mike Ballway. Larry currently maintains four primary characters; Fleet Captain William Bligh of the USS Alliance Fleet Commander of Fleet Four; Cmdr. Murri Kep, CE of the USS Montgomery; Lt. Cmdr. Warwick Chirpa of Starbase 202; and Oliver Garfield, SNN Editor on the planet of Crell.

While working from the outside, Larry lent assistance in the creation of the Trafalgar-class Tactical Destroyer. As a result, his first character was Trill Engineer Murri Kep, Chief Engineer on the first WeBB Trafalgar ship, the USS Montgomery, who was the "IC" designer of the Trafalgar computer system, especially the General Operations Russian Based Interface (GORBI) AI Computer, famous for its annoying Russian accient and its Communist tendencies. Kep was responsible for these designs while a graduate assistant at Nyetscape Communications, maker of all Starfleet computer systems. Later, he was also the designer of the Yub nub-class Destroyer. Larry also served for a time as Engineering Director, and teaches the Engineering Class at the STF Academy.

In addition to his regular characters, Larry is also a member of Zygweebil Mufasa Productions, Ltd., and Associate Editor of WeBBsights, the official newsletter of the WeBB. He is also the Cardinal of Zeta Alpha, Crell, for the Church of Sisko, as well as a high-ranking member of the Risan Mob, where is is known by both friends and victims as "Larry the Liquidator."
