STF Jargon

Or, That Strange, Unintelligible Dialect of Ours

As is the case with all of the Star Trek clubs on Prodigy -- all of the Trek clubs everywhere, really -- STF uses abbreviations quite frequently. Some are the same ones you'd find in the show or in the US Navy: CMO for Chief Medical Officer, Capt. for Captain, and the like. Others are based on the Bulletin Board lingo on Prodigy and hard for a non-BBer to understand. What follows is a by no means definitive attempt at cataloguing the majority of the acronyms, abbreviations, and other time-saving typing devices used in STF.

Ranks

Cadt., Cdt. Cadet: Used for trainees in STFAcademy.
Ens., Ensg. Ensign: Generally, a non-Academy graduate on his first mission.
LtJG., Lt. (jg) Lieutenant Junior-Grade: An Academy graduate on his first mission.
Lt. Lieutenant, generally a "dash-one" or a Department Head on his first mission.
LtC., Lt.Cmdr., LCmdr. Lieutenant-Commander: The most popular rank in the fleet, held by most department heads.
Cmdr. Commander, held by most first officers and some department heads.
Capt., Cpt. Captain, generally the commander of a ship, sometimes a first officer.
FCpt., FCapt. Fleet Captain, normally the commander of a fleet's flagship and assistant FComm to that fleet.
Cdre., Como. Commodore, usually a Captain who's been given an Admiral's duties but retains his ship command.
Adm. Admiral, usually a Fleet Commander or member of the Cabinet.
VFA, VFAdm. Vice-Fleet Admiral, a temporary rank bestowed on the sitting Vice-President.
FAdm., FA Fleet Admiral, a temporary rank given to the sitting President.

Other ranks from STF's past were mostly additional Admirals: Rear Admiral (RAdm.), Flag Admiral (FgAdm. or FgA), Senior Admiral (SA), and the like. Other clubs on Prodigy use basically the same system as STF's, only the admiralties are often different and "Commodore" and "Fleet Captain" are often omitted.

Prez President, the elected leader of STF.

The Cabinet

Veep, VP Vice-President, the big guy's running mate;
PDir Personnel Director, in charge of the master crewlist;
EDir Engineering Director, oversees technology in the club;
IDir Internet Director, maintains our official Web presence;
GMDir Game-Master Director, keeps Role-Playing games going in the club.
FComm, FC Fleet Commander, oversees a fleet. (there are as many FComms as there are fleets... duh...)
- AFComm, AFC Assistant FComm, normally a Captain who would take over from the FComm if incapacitated.
- CO Commanding Officer (of a ship; BCO for starbases).
  - XO Executive (First) Officer.
  - CE Chief Engineer
    - Eng-1 ACE Assistant Engineer
  - CMO Chief Medical Officer (Doctor)
    - Med-1 Assistant Doctor or Nurse
  - CSO Chief Science Officer
    - Sci-1, Assistant Scientist
  - COS Chief of Security
    - Sec-1 Security "red-shirt" <g>
  - CTO Chief Tactical Officer (on some ships)
    - Tac-1 Assistant Tactical Officer.
  - Cns., Cslr. Counselor
