The USS Constellation
The USS Constellation
Continuing in a Tradition of Greatness
For three years the flagship of the Great White Fleet, the USS Constellation resigned that post two years ago when Fleet Commander Barclay promoted the USS Trinitron, his captaincy, to that position. Despite our displacement at the apex of power in Fleet Two, however, the "Connie" remains the premier ship in STF (at least, in our minds it does) and stands by its history -- a history of innovation and leadership as long as the history of STF itself. In June of 1997 the Connie was temporarily retired, along with the Trinitron. We're not technically an active ship right now, but the Connie will always be an integral part of Fleet Two's history -- and, with any luck, its future as well.
A Celebrated Past
When the Great White Fleet was founded, the Constellation was at its head. STF President Jim Midyette, who held that office longer than any other, was a Constellation captain before and after his tenure in leadership. Fleet Commander Grace Larsen, one of the great Admirals of STF history, was also a Connie CO; Aaron Holland, while Fleet Commander of Fleet One, was also our Security officer, and Mike Ballway, current FComm of our home Fleet Two was the Connie's captain.
The first Constellation in STF bore the registry NCC-1017-E and was a Constellation-Class ship. Due to an accident involving Blue Jello and warp coils, that Constellation exploded in Starbase 93 Drydock.
It was at this point, the commissioning of the Galaxy-Class 1017-F, that Mike Ballway became Chief Engineer of the Connie. The Connie-F lasted three-quarters of a year but following a membership decline in late 1994, it was decommissioned. The Connie-F was set on autodestruct, and warped away from Starbase 93 in the direction of the Klingon frontier...
When membership swung up in mid-1995, the Connie-G was commissioned as a member of the new Trinitron class. Contrary to popular belief, that Connie was actually the first of the Trinitron-Class ships (the Trinitron itself was on a mission at the time, and was the second ship to recieve the upgrade). The Connie-G was decommissioned in August 1996 to make room for the new Connie-H.
The latest U.S.S. Constellation is a Trafalgar-Class ship, of the "Tactical Destroyer" type. Twelve decks high and xxx meters from bow to stern, she is a small ship. Her registry is NCC-1017-H and she was commissioned 8 August 1996. In June 1997 she was retired from active service after a membership downturn; She is docked permanently now at Starbase 93 but it is expected that she will be returned to active duty when membership increases.
