New Fleet on the WeBB

An auspicious beginning
From the beginning, Fleet Two will stand out among the fleets of the WeBB. As many of you know, this fleet -- the "Great White Fleet" -- is not traditionally a WeBB fleet. We are the oldest and proudest of STF's fleets, and until this month our record as consistent inhabitors of the Games BB on Prodigy was unbroken and unblemished.

Circumstances have forced a move, however. As a result of decommissionings more than a year ago, the GWF has recently only had one RPing ship. The combined strength of the two Prodigy fleets -- us and F1 -- was only three. The USS Victorious, formerly of F2, has now moved to F1.

The next few GWF Ops Memos will clarify GWF policy on AWOLs, ships' logs, promotions, transfers, and other administrative such-and-such. For now, let's meet the people who make it work.

Your Fleet leadership
I, Commodore Mike Ballway, have been the Fleet Commander of the Second Fleet continuously since 1996, and had been FComm-2 during parts of 1995 and '94 before then. I'm also the highest-ranking nonelected member of the club and currently hold the record for longest uninterrupted service, besides being Executive Editor of the Starfleet News Network.

Your AFComm, the recently-returned Commodore Mike Barclay, began his STF leadership career as one of my COs during my first tenure as FComm-2, and later went on to succeed me in the FComm-2 post. He attained the rank of Admiral in 1995 due to his RPing and governmental ability, which he demonstrated repeatedly as CO and in Command positions such as Engineering Director, AEDir, Personnel Director, Academy Commandant, etc. Barclay returns as CO of our flagship, the USS Trinitron, which was his first command.

From time to time, Mike and I will address you, the people of the GWF, in these "Operations Memoranda," which will be archived for your easy retrieval. Just as is the case with our President, the doors to Fleet Two Command are open and any comments are welcome, by email or in public posts on Starbase 93.

It is Fleet Command's intention and policy to treat every GWFer with respect and patience. We realize that nobody is forcing you to be a member of STF, that you are all here as Star Trek fans seeking a good time. Mike and I will do everything we can to make STF as fun for you as possible.
