| STF Second Fleet Ops =/\= Thursday, 20 August 1998 |
While there is a "preferred" MOTD format for STF2 ships (this format being the one used, as of this writing, on the Constellation, Trinitron, SB93, and the Fleet Main Page, which uses the same motif as the newly-redesigned Fleet Two WWW homepages), no ship is compelled to follow this format. Each CO, as caretaker of his ship's MOTD, however, is required to post certain data on the Message, viz.: The ship's name, registry, and class; names of all AWOL and LOA officers (see GWF Ops Memo #3); and the means by which the CO can be reached for quick consultation (at the very least, an email address; if applicable, ICQ numbers, IRC nicknames, and other such online identification). It's also advisable that the COs use the MOTDs as sites for very important announcements. The MOTDs should be kept up to date and viewed regularly by the ship's crew.
The Roster
The roster is perhaps the easiest ship administration tool to use. When personnel changes such as new cremembers or rank promotions occur, and the roster is not updated by automatic WeBB action, it is the CO's responsibility to modify the roster accordingly. The CO should also encourage his crew to keep their Character Information entries in the roster up-to-date. COs in Fleet Two are permitted to create unrostered "second positions" for their crewmembers when said crewmembers wish to RP as civilians (e.g. "bartender," etc.) or "guest characters" (e.g. mission specialists, "nameless ensigns," etc.). Rostered second characters are prohibited except for "custom" positions such as the above.
The Captain's Log
Fleet Two COs are required to keep a current mission synopsis, using the "Captain's Log" utility of the WeBB program. These Logs must be updated at least every two weeks and contain all promotions to ranks higher than Lieutenant-Junior Grade; all transfers involving Department Heads, Executive Officers, or Commanding Officers (incoming or outgoing); and, most importantly, updates on the RPG. These Logs serve the dual purpose of being both a reference for the crew (to catch up on facets of the mission or personnel changes that they might have missed on LOA or overlooked while RPing) and a historical record of the ship's history. Which brings us to. . . .
The Ship's Web homepage
STF provides space for ship homepages on the Web. Any CO wishing to write and publish a ship Webpage, or any STF member authorized to do so by the ship's CO, should contact the Internet Director. Ships' Web pages are completely voluntary -- they are not required. STF2 pages are located at http://star-fleet.com/stf2/[ship's name]/.
That's it for now. LL&P.
