If You Go AWOL
If the CO chooses to reinstate your, he may at his discretion give you a one rank reduction if your disappearance was long enough. No one may be demoted below Ensign. Again, if you feel the action was unwarranted you may appeal to the FComm.
If you feel that you were marked AWOL unjustly or by mistake, inform the CO. If you can show that it was a legitimate mistake and that you were in fact not AWOL, you should be reinstated at your previous position (if still available) without penalty of rank. If the CO refuses your request you may appeal to the FComm.
Declaring LOA
LOA means Leave Of Absence. It is a planned, announced period of inactivity.
To declare yourself LOA, you must do the following:
Members who need to take a temporary break from STF for any reason, must declare an LOA from the main menu. Also, you are requested to email your direct commanding officer (Med inform the CMO, CE inform the CO, CO inform the FComm) ans post a note on the ship. If you will be gone for more than a week. LOA does not protect you from being replaced, but in most cases, for LOAs of reasonable length, you will be allowed to return to your old position, or if unavailable, an equivalent position.
Enforcement
The CO of each ship is responsible for enforcing the Fleet AWOL policy on his ship. The member of Fleet Command in residence is responsible for enforcing the policy vis a vis the CO.
In many cases a CO will not mark a character AWOL immediately. If when you go to post your character is still listed on the Roster, you are not AWOL, regardless of the number of days since your last post. Do not, however, assume that all COs will be lienent. It is at the discretion of each CO how to handle AWOLs and if he will give a "grace period." Do not expect one.
In the event that an AWOL or penalty is appealed to the FComm, the FComm may overturn the decision of the CO. If no appeal is made, the decision of the CO stands. An appeal shall be defined as an e-mail message sent to the FComm, either directly or via the government auto-forward address.
If the CO of a ship is AWOL, the XO shall inform the FComm-2 by email, and take over as aCO until otherwise instructed. The XO shall also take over as aCO in the case of an LOA by the CO. If there is a vacency in the post of GM on the ship, the XO shall fill in as aGM. An aCO may appoint an aXO. If the CO and XO of a ship are simultaneously AWOL or LOA, the highest ranking non-AWOL/LOA Department head should contact the FComm for instructions immediately by email.
Other Matters
Individual COs may request to establish an alternate AWOL Policy for their ship. They must be able to show adequate reason for the request, and all such requests and alternate Policies must be approved by the FComm. The FComm is under no obligation to approve any alternate AWOL Policy is he does not wish to.
This Policy was officially approved by acting President Colin Wyers on 29 April 1999.
