=/\= The Memory of That First Ship
Few things stick out in an STFer's mind, when it comes time to review his career, than the ship on which he "cut his teeth" as a new recruit. For me, it was the USS Constellation in 1993, and no other ship could have equalled it (although I would have probably dismissed the Connie as "just another ship" had I signed up with the Trinitron or the Apparition -- and I would have remembered that ship as the one without an equal).
Fleet Two has seen more than two hundred new recruits in its seven years of operation. Each of these recruits reported to a ship. And those that stayed undoubtably remember their first postings with a clarity unlike any other posting they've received since -- except their promotions to Commander or, likely, their first Captaincies. Of the hundreds who've come through STF2's gates, so to speak, a great deal have come to ships that no longer exist, or have come to existing ships at a markedly different time in their history.
This page is for all the new recruits and all the transferees, the promotees, and the freshly-minted Captains who have called these ships their training grounds, their homes, their commands. May each of the GWF's former ships' -- and current ships' former lives -- live on in this page.
--Adm. Mike Ballway, 9 June 1999
=/\= USS Constellation (Flagship), NCC-1017-H
Perhaps it's the oldest ship in STF; we may never know. In any event, the Connie's history with STF2 dates back to the Fleet's founding, even though the ship has not always been there. In 1993 it was decommissioned for a few months due to personnel cuts; in 1997 it was put away for more than a year before returning in mid-1998 as part of the GWF's move to the WeBB. Famous alumni include Jim Midyette, Grace Larsen, current CO Chris Ashley, Jaret Hargreaves, and Rebecca Juarez. The Connie is currently a Trafalgar-Class Tactical Destroyer and Flagship of Fleet Two, although in previous incarnations it has been a Heavy Cruiser of the Trinitron and Galaxy classes, and a Light Cruiser of the Constellation class.

=/\= USS Trinitron, NCC-97025
Another of the GWF's "Ancient Eight," the Trin is best known for its leaders: Admiral Mike Barclay, President Jerry Phelps, Admiral Brian Misamore, Admiral Phillip Ballard, Admiral Matt Wolff, Commodore Ken Marklan, Fleet Captain Jaret Hargreaves . . . these names should give some encouragement to current CO and AFComm Simon Kelly, who runs the only STF ship named after a television and featuring the club's premier fast-food restaurant ("McTrinitron's"). The Trin was the class ship of the always-under-revision Trinitron class of Heavy Cruisers. However it was recently recommisioned as a Columbus--class Heavy Cruiser. The ship was also decommed in 1997 and also made its way back to active service in the WeBB GWF's first days.

=/\= USS Nautilus, NCC-77312-A
The Nauty used to be the youngest of Fleet Two's ships, and the first ship that was commissioned that did not serve on the Prodigy online service (which was F2's home before mid-1998). The Nautilus, an Andromeda-class Heavy Cruiser. the Nauty is captained by Mike Bourdaa. In the three and a half-year of its existence it has been the most reliable and continually the quickest-simming of the ships.
The Nauty now has a Webpage!
=/\= OutPost 45
The Outpost was commissioned in 1999 and is a Federation Outpost in orbit around Pilton, taking the place of the USS Arleigh Burke. The Outpost is currently under the command of Steve Johnson.

=/\= USS Lexington
The USS Lexington is the GWF's newest old ship, having last been a GWF RPG area in 1993. Until recently, the Lex served as an NPC member of the GWF, invoked regularly in sims. Membership demand for a third 'slow' ship in the GWF sparked this newest member of the fleet's commissioning. Captain Christer Bäckman commands the Lex.

=/\= Starbase 93
Dating from before 1993, Starbase 93 is the only STF2 tangible that has remained part of the Fleet continuously from those days to now. Some say the ghost of Julie Larsen and her android pal, Diskette, still roam the corridors, armed with an axe and ready to hack all Pepsi partisans to bits. Others just go along with this myth because they think it'll get them into free screenings of Monty Python and Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes. In any event, SB93 is the one-and-only indestructible Starbase in STF. The Constellation-E had a warp core breach within the docking area and the Base survived unscathed. See if your "Terok Nor" can do that!

=/\= F1: USS Victorious, NCC-1929
In 1995, Fleet Three was dissolved and its ships distributed among STF's other two Fleets. The Victorious quietly entered STF2, contributing Captains Adam Steiner and Adam Scurr (if it had joined a year earlier we could have added future Admiral Steve Langasek to that mix). The Vicky remained a solid ship, so solid that in Fleet Two's last round of decommissionings -- when the Connie and Trin were simultaneously junked in 1997 -- STF President Greg Hertzsch chose this crossover ship to be the solitary GWF active ship. Needless to say, it was Flagship for more than a year during this period, when the heavy influx of ex-Trin people caused it to be nicknamed the "Trinitorious." First Nick Oven and then Mark Wilson took the helm of the new Flagship (the "Tricky"?), which included Mike Ballway at COS, Owen Townes at CE, and Greg Hertzsch at CSO. When Fleet Two moved to the WeBB the Vicky stayed on Prodigy, joining Fleet One and eventually moving to the WeBB with them in early 1999. Capt. Wilson is no longer in command of what has become Fleet One's most reliable ship. This honour has falled to Steve Ashton
=/\= F3: USS Dresden, NCC-1837-B
Another of the Fleet Three refugees (this one, though, has made it back to its original home), the USS Dresden spent a short time in STF2 before being decommissioned in 1995. While its original class was Ambassador (think Enterprise-C), it is currently a Nimitz-Class Dreadnought. Adrian Kowalewski, architect of STF's roleplaying system was a Dres crewmember; its former Colony-era notables included Admiral Stef Scholesberg, former FComm-3; Ryan Lucas, who served as XO before becoming STF's Vice-President; and Daniel Barbarisi, who got his start as CSO. Following the Dres' 1997 recommissioning as one of the first ships of the then-nascent WeBB, a much different STFer got his start as Dresden CSO: Seamus Hughes, the former Prez. Other former WeBB-Dres crewers included Franco Torres, STF's second President who returned from retirement in 1998 to CO the ship. Today the ship is captained by, Jennifer Bowman.
The Dres has been provided a Webpage by Fleet Three Command.

=/\= The Ancient Eight
In 1993, when STF2's -- and STF*Prodigy's -- membership peaked, the GWF had eight ships, known now as the "Ancient Eight" because they date from before recorded history. Three of these ships are mentioned above, but the rest were all decommissioned in or before 1995.
USS Apparition -- In 1993, the Galaxy-class App was home to CO Brian "Scoop" MacFarlane, an early Fleet Two personality (and later Acting FComm-2), CMO Michele Michalski, the future Vice-President, and Eng-1 Jason Brocklesby, who later, as CO of the ship, protested vocally the plan to decommission it. Jason eventually resigned over the decomm in September 1994, paving the way for altogether too many SNN UPDATE jokes in future years.
USS Ark Angel II -- Even more blatant than Fleet Four's copying of Star Wars was this ship's ripoff of Randy McCullick's Nimitz-class F1 ship, with only two Roman Numerals separating the original from the knockoff. The ship had spirit, though: Captains Paula Lorenzo and Steve Jacob were active in the Fleet. It was decommed in the same blow as the App, during the late-Summer-1994 repercussions of Black July.
USS Arleigh Burke -- The Burke (it wasn't called "Arbie" back then) Recommissioned in 1999 as a command for returning Captain Mike Bowman, who was perhaps its only notable crewman (other than a Lt. Cmdr. who moonlit as its Security officer in 1993 . . . who had a lot of assistants named "Peter") the Arbie was a Nimitz-class powerhouse five years ago. It was decommissioned along with the Lexington and Sierra shortly after the Constellation got the axe in late 1993. The Arbie was one again decommisioned to make was for Outpost 45 in 1999.
USS Constellation -- The 'Lation (it wasn't called "Connie" back then) is also profiled above.
USS Lexington -- The Lex was the ship that Connie crewman Churlsan Han took over after leaving his original ship. Little else is known, since it was decommissioned shortly after the Connie's first decomm, in late 1993. The Lex was recommisioned in 2000 and once again joins the GWF. The lex's full profile is given above in "Active Ships of the GWF"
USS Sierra -- Even less is known of the Sierra, except that it too was decommed in late 1993.
USS Survivor -- Former stomping grounds of Scott Vandehey, David Brown, Anthony Fenili, Bob Romashko, and Greg Crosswhite, the Surv (an ironic name, wasn't it?) was decommed along with the Ark II and App in mid-1994. One of its last crewmembers, Sci-1 Kevin Blomseth, would reach the level of Aurora CO some four years later.
USS Trinitron -- The Trin (it's always been called the "Trin") is profiled above, in "Active Ships of the GWF."
USS Horta -- under the command of NPC Captain Due Han, is the muscle of the GWF's NPC fleet, a Nimitz class Dreadnought.
USS Zephyr -- a Magellan class science vessel under Captain Alexander Poe, serves as a scout and explorer
USS Geo. Washington -- an Independence class Special Operations Cruiser, is under the command of Jim Midyette, and is assigned mostly to delicate operations for UFP security.
USS Tokyo -- an Athens class Heavy Science Explorer / Carrier, serves as a large base for operations, mainly scientific but sometimes tactical or medical, for the GWF. The Tokyo is commanded by Suzumu Kodai
USS Adams -- Darwin class, under Captain Arthur Dent, serves largely as a courier and long range explorer for the GWF. Generally, the Adams can be found getting into trouble.
USS Chernobyl -- a Chernobyl class Tactical Destroyer, is often the expendable guns sent into dangerous situations first. This vessel is sometimes known as the Red Shirt Express, after the uniforms worn by Captain Kirk's short-lived landing party members. Captain Barb Nichols has this command, if she can survive it.
USS Addison -- a large Freighter of the Addison class, is often another victim of the whims of the universe, and this is proudly displayed in their ship's motto; "The few, the over-worked, and the expendable." Clark Scheffield commands this ship.
