Fleet News and Briefs

You thought you were rid of Fleet Four, didn't you? Admit it. Well, you were close. The last two weeks have been rather chaotic, plus half the fleet was on leave. But we've perservered, and although the red tape may be a bit behind, the fleet is overall doing well. The sole exception is, again, the Columbus. I have taken over from Jeff as GM for the time being, and will probably end up staying there. Hopefully, now that the LOAs are over (I think), we can finally pull this ship out of its slump.

Otherwise, we're in good shape. The Asimov is doing wonderfully, the Alliance is doing fine, and 202 is active if not focused. :-) The Montgomery used to be in a slump towards the end of Colin's last mission, but since it ended XO Phil Hobday's party has caused activity to skyrocket. Many new crew have come on board, and so far they are integrating into the Monty family quite well. Kudos to the entire Monty crew.

USS Alliance

CO: Larry Garfield
XO: Ralf Steen
GM: Deanne Ashton

RPG Update:
The Alliance has recently arrived at her destination, the Crag/Federation colony Jax I, that has been hit by a flood catastrophe. An away team has just been dispatched and is accompanied by the team of Shining Star Productions, who are doing a STF advertisement vid.

Activity Level:
Steady as always. Many LOAs have taken place this month, but that didn't slow the crew down at all. The sim is slowly starting to get into gear and about all crewmembers are back, so we expect an increase for the future.

Crew:
There is one very nice thing about the Alliance: All crewmembers operate on about the same high level, so while nobody really stands out, everybody is doing quite well all the same. Peter Hull, the new CSO, has done a very nice job on keeping his Sci-1, David Goldsberry, occupied. Consequently both have posted very well. Ari Herbstman has returned after his long LOA and is playing a female counselor now, keeping up the tradition on this position - we should add "Transsexual Ship" to the long list of the Alliance's titles. Brian Smith, my predecessor on the XO position, has returned to STF as the Alliance's CTO and has again shown his ability for high-quality posting.

General:
None this time (though I might remark that CO Bligh shows again his disregard for STF regulations and has joined the away team, leaving the poor XO on the bridge. Have fun, Larry! :)

CO Report:
Bligh was just going down for a cameo, Ralf, but if you'd like I can leave him on the surface while you sit and twiddle your thumbs. Meanwhile, I am very proud of the Alliance. Mid-month, over half the ship was on LOA at the same time, including the XO and GM, and the crew still didn't die off. The Science department hasn't been given any explicit orders in a while, yet somehow they manage to plow along just fine. Kudos to them. eLOAs Ari Herbstman and James Garfield have returned, and picked up nicely. Ari's new CNS character is a female, joining XO Ralf's female character. Why the Alliance attracts so many transvestites I don't know. (No comments from the peanut gallery.) CMO Elana Rubin recently resigned, and Nathan Miller has at long last returned to the Quotable Ship to replace her. (For those who don't remember, Nate and Deanne had characters on the Alliance once, way back in 1998, which they both dropped quickly. Now, we've finally gotten them back, as CMO and GM. Whee!) Our COS Kevin Pu is on leave this month while he tours the western hemisphere, so Brian Smith is filling in for him. Brian has been with the Alliance almost since the beginning, and served as COS and as XO for a long time, before recently returning as our CTO. Welcome back, Brian! The Alliance is in good shape.

USS Asimov

CO: Emma Rouse-Deane
XO: Taliyah Campbell
GM: Larry Garfield

RPG Update:
Since the last update the Asimov has crossed into Seetha space in order to locate the Force Generator. Upon crossing into that space the Asimov was confronted by a fleet from both factions. We are currently engaged in negotiations with the Sith faction as it is the Maul faction that has the Force Generator in their possession. It is our hope that the Sith faction will be able to help take on the Maul faction as the Maul greatly out number us.

Activity Level:
Stuff happened.Pretty fast. I'm expecting that to stay that way while we are in the thick of the sim. Although there has been quite a few LOAs taken recently mainly due to the fact that it is summer.

Crew:
All departments are looking well. Julian Notovony's switch over to Bartender has boosted his activity, creativity and provided a great comic relief.

General:
As it is the season for LOAs I shall also be taking mine for five weeks starting July 11/12 while I go conquer Europe. I will be back in Aug around the 17th. I suspect Barry Vogtman (2O) will be aXO while I'm away but that decision is Emma's to make.

CO Report:
Posting has decreased slightly, but it's nothing too serious. We've got a couple of LOA's for various reasons, but things are going well, and hasn't impacted the sim too much.

Both old, and new crew seem to be getting along good, but we are still no closer to obtaining the Force Generator as of yet. A dialogue has been opened with Darth Sussido from the Sith, and so far, he's the only thing standing between us, and the wrath of about 30 Seetha vessels.

As for the departments, both Johnathan and Izzy have provided their ususal high calibur posting, and Science has managed to come up with a novel way to maintain our shields. Medical has been taking it relatively easy, althought that is never a good sign... (no we don't need any casulaties) Engineering, headed by Lt. Hoge (Robert James) is currently trying to fix the damage we sustained in our last encounter with the Seetha, which is by no means, an easy task.

Mention has to go to Lt. Cmdr Avery (Barry Vogtman) for his excellent posting, since he has been back, what with the roles of his kids, and his current bout of amnesia, which he recieved from an exploding console. (Please Barry don't sue :). His postings with those of Tali are enjoyable, and is adding some insight into both their characters. Larry is his usual fine self as GM, and is keeping us guessing, and occupied. Julian is doing a great job with his newly appointed position of bartender, althought the crew nows seems to spend quite a bit of time in the bar.

This month we have some new additions to the crew, Ens Kandoq (Graham Taylor) and Ens. Morgan (Jennifer Stevenson) in Engineering, and Security respectively, and both are doing a great job.

So far, a good month.

FComm Report:
My main role on the Asimov of late has been as the ship's GM. I have GMed seven different ships, including the entirety of Fleet Two simultaneously, since late 1997 when I started GMing. Frankly, I have to be honest and say the Asimov is the best crew I've had the privilige of working with in all that time. The crew is active and on top of their game. At points where the main mission has slowed down, usually because I've disappeared for a few days to rub elbos with REAL politicians, I've come back to find that everyone has managed to keep themselves busy despite my absense. And the mission still presses forward. I must say, they're giving me a run for my money, in a good way. Special note goes to Jonothan Hughes, who is still a bit overzealous but I'm hard pressed to find a way to stop him, since he's right more often than not. :-) Honorable mention also goes to Izzy Harris, who impresses me greatly, and to the CO/XO team of Emma and Taliyah. I remember back when the Aismov was the continual Black Sheep of Fleet Four. That title no longer has any application here.

USS Columbus

CO: Paul Jones
XO: Kystelle Bromilow
GM: Larry Garfield, acting

RPG Update:
Well..hmm... you know I don't think the sim has progressed at all since last report except for the fact that Cyrriasis(myself) and Se'rah were kidnapped when we were suppose to be beaming over to meet the leaders of this Trade Federation. We have escaped confinement and are attempting to gather imformation as well as find a way out:)

Activity Level:
Activity level is really, really bad. I think we average 5 posts a day if we're lucky. Usually its one or two. At the moment I think there's only Kor'esh, Niki and Bob and Linus and I posting at all.

Crew:
Umm well I don't know if we're going to be able to pull the ship out of this slump with this sim. Jeff is back and still not posting as regularly as he should. He should be posting multiple posts during the day to try and draw the crew out. He is not. He hasn't posted in two days at the time of this report. I am very discouraged at the moment and don't think this ship will turn around until Paul and the other major DH's get back. As well as getting a committed GM who will encourage the crew to post and help along on that end. It is going to take a lot of work to get this ship up and moving again and it will take the effort of the GM,CO, XO and every DH. I don't see this happening soon.

General:
See above :)

aCO Report:
(Filed by Krystelle Bromilow) Well um,I don't know really what I am suppose to say here:) I think I said it all in the XO report. The Columbus is in serious trouble and not coming out of it fast. It will take the concentrated effort of a committed GM,CO,XO and DH's to have a prayer in getting this ship back up to speed. I do not see that happening with this sim or GM or with the CO and some DH's missing. I think that's all I can say other than its breaking my heart to see this ship like this. When I first joined the Columbus it was the funnest and livliest ship I had ever served on. I am sorry to say that the GM had alot to do with its decline as he AWOLed so much and left the crew hanging and despite the XO and DH's valiant effort to keep the crew posting we couldn't do it without the input of the GM. I can't say anymore, sorry.

USS Montgomery

CO: Jeff Field
XO: Philip Hobday
GM: Colin Wyers

RPG Update:
A transition period at the moment. CO Jeff Field (Fleet-Captain Jeff Field) is on LOA, while the rest of us - including several new members - are partying away in 6-Forward. We're beginning to get the newbies integrated into the ship's company, cope with the loss of the GM to the USMC, and are just about handling the XO's drunken ramblings.

Activity Level:
Between missions but keeping very steady; c10+ per day. A very good performance for a "between sim" ship. Am most impressed with the way the crew, especially its new members, are integrating into Monty's life.

Crew:
A number of promotions took place at the end of last sim; everyone who deserved recognition received it, and to single out anyone for special treatment would not do justice to the superb contributions most people are making to the Monty team.

General:
Not much to say this month. We must be one of the most coherent, friendly and fun ship's companies in STF. Everyone's doing well, and we are seeing a new influx of -2s and -3s, so there's lots of room for an exciting new sim...

CO Report:
Ship and crew have functioned well. Activity dropped due to lack of interest in the sim, but things perked up towards the end. YaY. Many a promotion was made. I am very happy with the -X's ability to integrate themselves well in their departments, specifically the engineering team.

FComm Report:
The Monty nearly died towards the end of Colin's last mission. Somehow, however, activity has gone up considerably since then, which is unusual for between-mission periods. XO Phil Hobday has done a great job organizing a party in 6-Forward to get drunk at, much to the chagrin of the rest of the crew. Engineer Monty the Python is serving the drinks, while COS Stuart Coll and CSO Jenn Schubert have announced that they (their characters, that is) are now officially engaged. The location of the ceremony is still under debate. Several new junior officers have joined the ship, and so far have merged into the crew quite well. Most of the crew are doing a great job helping to bring them in. How this ship survives is a mystery to me, but somehow it manages it. Kudos to Phil, to whom much of the credit goes.

Starbase 202

CO: Krystelle Bromilow
XO: Doug Van Ness
GM: Larry Garfield

RPG Update:
The RPG conyinues much as last month. We are currently investigating several explosions on the srabase, all seemingly related to a civilian Crag, Coka Kola.

Activity Level:
Posting activity is high. Quality of posts is high.

Crew:
Michael Seiler (LTJG Night, COO) has shown excellant quality of posts and keeping the sim going. He keeps his subordinates active and I highly recommend him for an XO position.

General:
Stuff happened.

CO Report:
Hmm what to say about the 202 this month :). Well I think we are really in good shape. Despite a bit of DH shuffle with Mackie and Linus going off on LOA and a few new faces to fill in as their DH's, things haven't been ruffled by that at all. I am really impressed with the crew that I have managed to gather. They are continuing to work on finding out information on the terroists and their explosive capabilities. They have been impressive IC with their posts and ability to move the sim along. I am really happy with the 202 right now and it has taken hard work to get it to this point:) I look forward to catching these terroists and convincing Larry to give us a little time off for a promotion party. This crew really deserves it. I think that's about all I have to say with no complaints this month :).

Crell

Active Members: Larry Garfield, Deanne Ashton, Krystelle Bromilow, Nathan Miller

Status:
Kristina Humphreys has disappeared again. The rest of the Crell regulars, however, are still churning along, as strong as ever. Although some people may consider it slow, I personally think that it gives people the time to go into much more depth than thay often do on more populous ships. In any case, Crell is holding steady.
