Fleet News and Briefs

What's the big news? The big news around the fleet is the fact that all five ships have or will be ending missions this month. That makes it the perfect time for a Fleetwide to kick off. But I'm not going to implement it unilaterally. Currently the STF4 Mailing List is alive with the question of whether or not the fleet is ready for it, and whether or not given ships are ready for it. Those who are interested and are in the fleet are encouraged to join the list and take part, if they haven't already. Will next month's report be same old same old or a the beginnings of the Fleet Four Finale Fleetwide?

In other news, most ships are doing well, with one exception. The Monty has been beset by GM troubles, and taken a very sudden turn for the worse. Our team of expert analists are on the job, taking notes and doing nothing. Fleet Command, however, is taking a more proactive stance, and the situation will, hopefully, be rectified shortly. The Columbus has had a bit of a mutiny in the past few days, but that appears to now be behind us, and the whole crew is looking forward to the mission now. Or if they aren't, they're doing a pretty damn good impression.

What does that mean? I guess you'll just have to read the reports below and find out, now won't you?

USS Alliance

CO: Larry Garfield
XO: Ralf Steen
GM: Deanne Ashton

RPG Update:
It's not often a GM is asked to make a sim longer, but that happened here. And it's this sim extension that has everyone's focus right now.

A second Guardian of Forever has awakened (a lusty and lonely female version). In her quest for companionship, she convinced XO Cheala Bak to push NE Stubbs through the portal. Stubbs, in turn, has rewritten a bit of history: Specifically the uniform style. Women now look more like Risan call girls than Starfleet officers. They make the style of Kirk's Starfleet look puritan by comparison.

Time hiccups, a side effect of the Guardian's restlessness, kept disrupting things on the Ally. At one point, several dozen CEs existed in one reality; as well as two different CSOs and the original Captain Bligh. CE Andriss Mardall has corrected that problem.

Only two remain: Getting Stubbs back from the Guardian, and figuring out how dimwitted engineer Michael Dalgety has been joined by a brilliant scientist Michael Dalgety in the same reality. Can the love of one woman be that strong?

Of all the ships I've GM'd in my STF service, the Ally is easily the most improved. While never lacking in talent, the crew was rigid in the beginning and had problems with my free-form, show-me-what-you-can-do style. Now, just about everyone has embraced it.

The time hiccups spurred some of the most creative ideas I've seen on this ship. I'm glad things turned out so well.

Activity Level:
"Steady, steady as she goes!" The Alliance is still a very reliable ship, almost every crewmember is posting every other day, and AWOLs are almost nonexistant. Kevin Pu got a bit lost at midmonth, and currently we're missing the CTO, Brian Smith, but that's nothing to worry about.

Crew:
The new streak of "time hiccuping" that occured when NE Stubbs went through the Guardian of Never inspired the crew to quite a lot of very imaginative posts. We had all women dressed up like Risan dancing girls, a CE that had multiplied, a ghost CSO, Fletcher Christian, William Bligh in a 18th century naval uniform...you name it! Almost every crewmember responded spontaneously, it was a lot of fun (and hasn't ended yet).

General:
Sorry, Larry, can't think of any this month

CO Report:
When the mission began, there was indeed a problem adapting to Deanne's laissez-faire style GMing. But as she's pointed out, however, the crew has come around and is really showing its strength. Just about everyone has picked up the timeshifts wonderfully. Then, just today, Deanne threw us for an even bigger loop with a "Yesterday's Enterprise"-style dimentional swap. That was less than 24 hours ago, and almost instantly nearly the entire crew picked it up and ran with it. Ironically, the person who had the hardest time with it was me, because I didn't read all posts first. Bad Garfield! Seriously, though, reading the Alliance today made me proud. 'Nuff said.

The mission is expected to end in the next 2 weeks or so, to coincide with Deanne's departure from STF. At that time there will be several personnel changes happening, all of them already planned. No one will be leaving, as far as I know, but we will be getting a few new faces on board, who have requested positions on the ship. I see big things in the Ally's future.

USS Asimov

CO: Emma Rouse-Deane
XO: Taliyah Campbell
GM: Larry Garfield

RPG Update:
With the Force Generator destroyed, Darth Sidious canceled the temporary partnership with the Asimov, so the Asimov high-tailed it back to Federation space. two Sith ships persued, but refused to cross the boarder, so the Asimov is now home free. Along for the ride is Darth Sosa, formerly the #2 man, er, Seetha in the Maul rebellion. He is expected to turn state's evidence. SNN is preparing to leave the ship once they reach DS20, which should be any day now, but may be persuaded to stick around for not one but two weddings that are now in the works.

Activity Level:
I would say the activity level has been pretty high as most are convinced we are near the end of our sim.

Crew:
Our crew seems to be working well together. The 2O, CE, CSO and the resident bartender (ex eng) are all working together in Main Engineering.

I think Emma and the crew has handled everything very well especially since I feel like I`ve been running around like a chicken with its head cut off. I don`t think I`ve ever been so lost in a sim. My long LOA, I believe was the cause of my confusion.

General:
I just recently found out that other ships have such things as petting zoo`s and throne rooms. Therefor I would like to petition for the licence to knock out our secondary sickbay to put in a multiplex (theatres, swimming pool, ice rink, and bowling alley.)

AFComm Report:
Well the Asimov is still hanging in there, despite losing the Force Generator completely, but we're not going to cry about it, after all we did get a free lizard, which I'm sure we can redeem for something :)

Posting has dropped slightly, but is to be expected as we tie up all the lose ends to the sim, but the quality of the posts are top notch.

We've still got the problem of not being able to retain our security Ensigns... not entirely sure why that is, they just don't seem to post, and don't answer emails.. I'm tempted to tie them to the warp nacelles, or a big rock.. who knows it might work.

After running Mack off his feet the past month, we've managed to get him some help, (and not the psycho EMH either!!) in the form of Kyle Green, who apparently knows what he is letting himself in for, hehe :)

The departments are working well, the ship is in one piece.. overall, we're not looking too bad.

USS Columbus

CO: Ralf Steen
XO: Linus Lindblad
GM: Larry Garfield

RPG Update:
The Controllered members of the crew, meaning the CO, XO, and half the senior staff, have staged a fake warp core breach. Separating the ship, they made the free members of the crew on the Saucer think the stardrive was destroyed, while it is actually now hiding on the other side of the planet. Meanwhile, the other half of the senior staff has disappeared into the ether, so it's all Junior Officers now.

Activity Level:
Yowza!, forget what I said in the last report, this ship has improved greatly in posting numbers. It is still a matter of coordination, as there are many things happening at once. Though I'm sure that by the time this report is put up for viewing, this problem will be solved aswell.

Crew:
Well the crew is still new, but I think its time to point out a few bright spots. A special applaud for Jennifer Bowman, Claudette Drake, Tiana Dumancas, Emma Rouse-Deane and David Goldsberry. They have been most engaged with the ship. And I don't know if Goldsberry has an DH spot yet, but he sure seems ready for one.

General:
Apart from general confusion, and the fact that most of the DH staff wants to stage a mutiny, things are going well. ;)

CO Report:
Ladies and Gentlemen,

This is the first report for the USS Columbus I have the honour to submit to you, and since I haven't been on that ship before, I'm lacking sufficient data to compare October's occurences to those of the months before.

I remember from earlier fleet reports though that the activity on the Columbus has recently been reported to be in a lamentable state. That isn't the case anymore, when I joined the crew I found them to be as active as one could wish for. The merit for this has to go to my predecessor, Paul Jones, who has done some changes to the crew before he left, most notably the addition of the so-called "Pauly's Angels" to the roster, i.e. Jen Bowman, Claudette Drake and Tiana Dumancas as CNS, CSO or COS respectively, but every single other crewmember who's on the roster is very active and posting at least every other day, so in that aspect there's nothing to worry about, much to the contrary.

The CE position has undergone some fast switching this month, first we witnessed the resignation of Sinéad Doyle and the addition of Michael Blasdel to the roster, then it was all vice versa, Blasdel had to resign for RL reasons and Doyle returned to her former position.

One thing that could be improved though is the extent of listening to each other. The sim as it is is complicated and confusing enough, and further confusion by not responding to posts where necessary or by not reading all posts before replying could easily be avoided. Also the crew doesn't seem to be very keen on note-trimming for some reason.

Now, what to make of this sim? From what I understand, we're dealing with a sim that was started by Jeff Field and later was continued by Larry Garfield, a setup that in itself is complicated at best. The sim idea includes that some crewmembers (CO, XO, CMO and CE) are controlled by a little device planted into them by certain aliens with the final goal of handing the Columbus over to these aliens. While this setup certainly has promise, as it involves a part of the crew working against the rest, it also turns out to be quite complicated. Of course nothing one party does can be kept from the knowledge of the other one (OOC), so the tendency to ahead-suspect every move the opponents might make, while sometimes unrealistic, is understandable. Anyway, I would urge the crew to check on every suspicion if it is really appropriate. On the other hand, we conspirators have the problem that we don't really want to win after all, so while we're trying to be as evil as we can, we have at all times to take into account that in the end we want to be caught. This leads to some awkward situations, I especially mention a scene where some officers were explicitly ordered on an away mission, but still are arguing with the XO over the sense or nonsense of it.

Anyway, I don't want to overemphasize anything, most of it is due to the fact that the ship has had an exchange of CO, XO, GM, CE (twice), COS, CSO, CNS and most likely CMO since the beginning of the mission (is there anybody who's been there from the start?), and I am very confident that with a little effort from everyone this marvellous crew will be able to bring this sim to a successful ending (which should be soon, as Larry has promised).

I won't hand in recommendations yet, I think I'm not yet long enough CO of this ship to judge anyone correctly.

Now, after what in retrospect (or scrolling up, as you like it) seems like a bit much complaining, I'd also like to point out that I'm very glad to be the CO of such a fine ship and really enjoy roleplaying with everyone here.

That said, let's move ahead until the next report is due...next month, same time...

AFComm Report:
The Columbus is looking much better than it has been for the past couple of months, posting is back up to a higher standard, infact the entire crew is now posting :)

The tension is rising as the crew are at one anothers throats, some more than others, as they question everyone's actions. Paranoia, and mutiny are probably on the cards somewhere along the line..hehe, fun! :) All this is to be expected as the CO, XO, CMO and CE are all under some controlling influence. The Junior Officers are trying to get their heads around it, but not without turning on themselves. How they managed to figure it all out, is still up for debate. Admist all this chaos there is still time for some romance, and carboard cut out worship, don't ask :)

Force Generators, now why does that sound familiar? Anyway.. the ship is looking strong once again, although there has been some slight confusion mid way through the month, when topics got mixed up, but nothing that couldn't be sorted.

FComm's Addendum:
In the last few days, after the above reports were submitted, Things have gotten more complicated on the Columbus. While many people feared (or perhaps hoped for) a mutiny, the one that came was unfortunately OOC, in particular by "Pauly's Angels" (Jen Bowman, Claudette Drake and Tiana Dumancas) against first the GM, then the CO. Taking the OOC vs. IC knowledge problem too far, COS Tiana directly violated IC orders in a fashion that warranted a Death Warning from the GM, under Edict Bourdaa #19. The GM issued no Death Warning, opting instead to simply knock her out, but she felt that was still not acceptable, and resigned from the ship. The trio then posted direct and open attacks against the GM and the CO, until the CO ordered the issue ended and any further commentary confined to email. Claudette Drake did send an e-mail to the CO, which was unacceptably derogatory, and at his request she resigned from the ship as well. Not to be out done, Jen Bowman also resigned, completing the trio.

Although Ralf has stated that he believes the ship is currently suffering, my personal feeling is that aside from the Pauly's Angels escapade the ship is doing quite well for itself. With the major violators of IC/OOC knowledge no longer on the ship, and the plot picking up steam as well, I expect things to rise quite steadily between now and the next report. Go home, there's nothing more to see.

USS Montgomery

CO: Jeff Field
XO: Philip Hobday
GM: Chris Ashley

RPG Update:
Two away teams have been sent to the surface to search Risa's less populated jungle areas for missing members of the Yuki diplomatic delegation. Unfortunately, that's about as much as has happened, as the GM was forced to take a series of back to back LOAs.

Activity Level:
Activity is slacking off slightly, despite efforts of DHs to keep it going, due to the GM's LOA. Hopefully, Chris will return soon, and posting return to its usual active leve.

Crew:
Chris Taylor (Ensign Chris Taylor, Sec) has been doing very well finding his feet and joining an away mission. Kris Humphreys (Cmdr Krys Humphreys, CMO) has joined us, following the departure of Jaret Hargreaves (Lt-Cmdr James Hargreaves, former CMO) to Fleet 2.

General:
Not much to say - the sim will revive soon, and with it, the activity and pace of Monty life.

CO Report:
Ship is performing well. Engineering is Strong and Medical is doing suprisingly well considering they normally do absolutely crap. This is even after the departure of our previous CMO and his replacement by his predeccesor.. er..

Posting overall is on a good level, I think the ship has become much stronger as of late. I think the crew is interacting extremely well. I've seen a dramatic improvement of the ship over the past month or two.

FComm Report:
Contrary to hopes, GM Chris Ashley has not returned as of yet, and the ship has taken a very sudden nosedive. I have spoken with both Chris and Jeff, and decided that Chris will be replaced. Since this mission was based on one of Chris' ongoing plot lines, I decided it wouldn't be appropriate to hand it over to another GM, so I am bringing it to an extremely fast close. (Fortunately, that can be done without causing any major problems, and without invoking John de Lancie, who is not welcome in my fleet. :-) A new GM has already been slated, and will hopefully be on board and stirring up trouble within a week. Exact plans are pending the decision of the Fleetwide question. Ironically, the Mony hasn't had a stable mission since Colin Wyers finished his bad anime rip off last spring, but is somehow still there.

Starbase 202

CO: Philip Hobday
XO: David Yim
GM: Larry Garfield

RPG Update:
The crew has, finally and after more effor than should have been necessary, tracked the terrorists to the fusion reactor control room, where they were threatening to blow up the station if they weren't given one million shuttlecraft and a bar of gold pressed latinum. (Er, that's one million bars of gold pressed latinum and a shuttlecraft.) The crew was able to neutralize their weapons and take control of the situation, and Chirpa has been rescued. The leader of the terrorist cell has been captured, but the last member appears to have escaped...

Activity Level:
The pace of posting has rised a bit and further increase seems to be promising.

Crew:
Our BSO, Kevin Pu has shown incredible improvement both in posting rate and quality. However, our CSS seems to be disinterested to the sim.

General:
The recent improvement is appealing but further efforts is needed to bring the SB back to his good, old days.

CO Report:
SB202's sim is dragging on, but hopefully will meet its end over the weekend. Once this is done, a thoroughly good party is needed, and at this point we will clean up the roster and MOTD, and give the place a spring-clean. Hopefully, most of the crew will be happy to stay, and we can start a new sim afresh.

Special mention to the Medical department. The doctors have had very little to do in relation to the sim, since the scientists and sec and ops bods are tracking down terrorists, but some superb character development is going on. XO David Yim, along with his away team, have been doing a very good job, and David deserves much credit for the way in which he handled taking new responsibilty and coping with a new CO in a short space of time.

The crew is doing well, and demonstrates great potential to be a very good place to RP with a good rapport among its members.

AFComm Report:
The crew of Starbase 202 seems to have been dragging their feet for a bit this month. It took them an age to figure out why they were not picking up the terrorists, but after much debating they are finally making progress.. For this reason posting has been a bit slow, but the medical department has still managed to find time for a tea break.. and considering the station is scheduled to go kaboom, that is no easy feat :)

Not a brilliant month to start off with, but it's getting there.

Crell

Active Members: Larry Garfield, Deanne Ashton, Ralf Steen, Emma Rouse-Deane, Darin Weil

Status:
Some selective recruitment has resulted in Crell's population doubling this month, and with it not only the rate but the quality of posting. The once quiet planet is now bustling again, with skill showing on every side. Of extra special note is Ralf Steen's welcoming post, which drew Ooos and Ahhhs from half the planet. We are all very glad that Deanne has agreed to stick around on Crell for a bit longer than elsewhere. She is one of Crell's longest standing and strongest citizens. I don't know what we would do without her.
