Fleet News and Briefs

The Fleet plots along! Activity is up this month on most ships, although not as high as I'd like it to be. The Columbus and Montgomery still defy any attempts on my part to advance the plot. They're a creative bunch, I'll give them that. So what's happened to the wacky mission?

RPG Update

In our last exciting episode, we saw that Starbase 202 had been visited by two brown-robed figures claiming to know something about everything, Alderaan had been destroyed, the Alliance was in persuit of the SS Falcon commanded by Lars Ono, and the Columbus and Montgomery were trying to find their missing half of a ship.

While monitoring the situation in the Zeta Epsilon (Sith) system via a specialized stealth probe, the Asimov discovered the cause of Alderaan's destruction. Alderaan itself was reduced to a small asteroid field, apparently by an anti-proton weapon. The source of the weapon was probably the immense metalic object they have detected. "Immense" in this case doesn't mean big, it means stompin' HUGE! The object is so big that the probe has yet to be able to get a complete picture of it. It is made out of some sort of unknown gray metalic material, is proportinally flat, and has a long straight side as well as at least one "stalk" rising from the top of it. A broadcast message, apparently from this object (which the science officer has declared is no moon, but a space station), was received, not just by the Asimov but by the entire fleet. (It's contents are listed below.) The Asimov has just been contacted by a Seetha scout ship, carrying one misc. Seetha on board, asking for help.

The Alliance, meanwhile, has tracked Lars Ono and the Falcon to the Calamar asteroid field. The field is too dense for the Alliance, so CTO Smith, COS Anderson, and Eng Dalgety have taken 3 shuttles into the field to go after them (the Maggie, Wolverine, and Red 2). The Alliance, meanwhile, is trying to maintain active scans of the asteroid field, but the incredible density of the field is making the computer (SIGMUND) take up most of his processing power, so much so that the replicators are having a hard time making a good cup of tea.

The Columbus and Montgomery, having secured the area, managed to "persuade" the Viceroy to give them access to his sensor logs, which confirmed that the Stardrive section had indeed not been destroyed, but left the system with the Malencar Sect's ship. Their trajectory led the crews to the Mu Theta system, where they indeed located the Stardrive section and Palpitine freighter (that's the Malencar Sect's ship) in orbit of Mu Theta II. They are mounting an assault team as we speak.

Meanwhile, Captain Temple initially turned down the request of the brown-robed Obi-Enne and his green and wrinkly cohort, who has now been identified as Ouija. Even a demonstration of the powers of The Force, which Temple asked for, was unable to persuade him. Hearing the broadcast from the unknown object that destroyed Alderaan, however, seems to have changed his mind somewhat, and he has contacted Fleet Commander Bligh on the Alliance for further advise. Meanwhile, an unmanned freighter of unknown origin has docked at the station. Registered as the SS Otana, the logs show the crew abandoned ship right after takeoff. It must be a decoy, several of the escape pods have been jettesoned.

So what's this broadcast we keep talking about? I'll just quote the original post:

The signal was coming from the general direction of Zeta Epsilon. Audio only.

The voice was deep and resonating. It boomed through the speakers on the bridge with a
presence that was unmistakable. A faint sound of deep breathing could be heard in the
background as it spoke. From somewhere, a deep droning male chorus could also be heard.

=/\=All Federation worlds. Your time has come. All your base are belong to us. We have come to
reclaim what is ours, that you have destroyed. We accept your galaxy in forfit. You will not
stand in the way of our destiny, or other star systems will suffer the same fate as Alderaan.
Darth Vader of the Palpitine has spoken.=/\=

The signal ended. Down in Engineering, an NE put in a CD and started playing the track labeled
 "Imperial March."

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Fleet Report, already in progress.

USS Alliance

CO: Larry Garfield
XO: Peter Hull
GM: Chris Ashley

RPG Update:
The Alliance is in pursuit of the SS Falcon, operated by rogue trader Lars Ono; it apparently has Ally Sec Lt. Toobits on board as well. The Falcon has entered the Calamar Belt, a substantial asteroid field. Based on SIGMUND's extensive simulation of the field, which currently occupies 3/4 of computer resources, three shuttles are currently in pursuit. SIGMUND wishes to note that the chances of successfully navigating an asteroid field are approximately 3,720 to 1.

Activity Level:
Stuff happened.Activity on the Alliance is still low, I expect it to pick up as the chase progresses.

Crew:
All the crew are performing well. Those who were not have now gone AWOL. We need some more crew at the lower level.

General:
Unfortunately real life has been limiting my time for STF rather heavily!

CO Report:
The Alliance is not up to where I know it can be, and has been not that long ago. In part, I think the plot is moving too slowly. I'm trying to determine the best way to combat the chicken and egg challenge the ship is facing right now, but hopefully blowing a few things up should improve matters.

USS Asimov

CO: Emma Rouse-Deane
XO: Taliyah Campbell
GM: Larry Garfield

Activity Level:
The activity level has been extremely high with both the main sim and a few side sims. I don`t predict it will slow down anytime soon especially since Darth Vader just arrived on scene.

Crew:
Everyone has been working really well together. Our CMO has finally returned right in the middle of a side sim crisis in sickbay perfect timing. All the new people to the ship have all managed to jump in with both feet and keep well afloat.

General:
Everyone is doing a great job as usual with Emma in the Captain`s seat.

CO Report:
Let's see.. The crew and ship are still in great shape. Posting and activity is on par with last month, in that it has remained high and consistant. All the weddings and births have been concluded, although there may be another one following on the cards shortly, wedding that is, not more babies! Very soon the ship will be filled with couples if this carries on... I'm begining to think there is something in the air.. but luckily not everyone is infected, or is that affected? :)

Engineering have been having a quite month so far, we haven't been in any mishaps yet, so it's just a case of routine diagnostics, and trying to prepair the ship for whatever is coming our way.. and by all accounts it's something huge! Security have been continuing the group bonding, and sickbay has been handling the death of Adam Jnr. who had been born with a birth defect. So there's a lot or raw emotions going around.

All in all we've been seeing some of the crews spare time hobbies, and interactions. The crew is definitely a crew in the sense they get on well and interact on a regular basis outside their shifts and duties. Character development is one thing we seem to be good at.

Kudos has to go to Phil Morral who has improved greatly since he came onboard, Brandon has been a great asset to the crew since he came transfered towards the end of last month, and I can see big things in his future. Actually I should give credit to everyone on the Asimov, for they are all doing a stunning job, but then this report whould be twice as long ;)

Crew and ship are in fine health, so another month out of the way..

USS Columbus

CO: Johnathan Hughes
XO: Linus Lindblad
GM: Larry Garfield

Activity Level:
We're going about good exept some few crewmembers who have problem with RL (Read XO) or those who just seem to have hit the AWOL limit. We're certainly at a point where posting is just at the expected level for a ship of this size.

Crew:
We have a few selected good lowrank persons who shall by all means be rewarded accordingly at the end of the sim. Confusion remains at the minimal level throughout the ship and the new members seems to have intrigrated well into the sim.

General:
As XO I have to pardon for this late submittance of fleet report as the dreaded Real Life has plauged me endlessly for this week. But I find time to post every other day, hopefully things will resolve after a while.

CO Report:
None Submitted.

AFComm Report:
The sim has been treading water for a while this month as in there hasn't been all that many new developments, but activity has remained good and constant, and as we near the end of the month, we are probably on the verge of finding the rest of the ship.. I know I've been saying that for a while, but I think this time we may be a little bit closer. Well we are heading to some planet.. which is at least a start, hopefully in the right direction :)

Johno has been finding his feet, the paranoia and arguments between most of the staff remaining on the saucer section is dying down, and we have finally evicted the Monty crew back to their ship :)

USS Montgomery

CO: Jeff Field
XO: Philip Hobday
GM: Larry Garfield

Activity Level:
Slightly difficult to judge since there has been a large increase in OOC posts and the addition of topics from the Columbus. Seems good though needs to improve.

Crew:
Lt.-Cmdr. J'dhaan Sutek COS (Shalon Hurlbert) is back and doing very well; Ensign Chris Taylor, Sec (Chris Taylor) is impressive.

General:
I am pleased with the way things are proceeding. We need to keep people engaged and perhaps provide some alternate plotlines for those not immediately part of the sim. Otherwise, alles gut.

CO Report:
Status of the ship is improving now that everyone is back on the ship. Overall I would say it is doing ok, but has a lot of room for improvement. Posting frequency and character develop need work, and I am no exception.

Engineering is strong as usual, and surprisingly Medical is doing really well. There are (for the most part) two good people in every department.

FComm Report:
The Montgomery is in the same condition as the Columbus, which is to be expected given that they are joined at the hip right now. The crew is strong, for the most part active, but the plot continues to go nowhere. This may be due in part to the discussion of Jeff's sheep. It could also be due to the recent realization that between the two ships we have Americans (Yankies), Brits (Limeys), Canadians (Loonies), Australians (Aussies), and a New Zealander (Kiwi), so we're all making fun of how each other part of the English speaking world can't pronounce or spell or row or has a strange fetish for wool. I expect that we will shortly settle our differences and find some European country to make fun of together.

Starbase 202

CO: Philip Hobday
XO: David Yim
GM: Larry Garfield

Activity Level:
The posting rate remain steady though it's a bit low.

Crew:
Most of the crew are performing well though a lot of junior staff has gone to the wonderland and we failed to find them back. Our new BMO, RPed by old RPer Nikolle Burchett, mixed in well.

General:
The high loss of junior officer mustn't be stand. A line must be drawn here. Measures will be implenments to reduce the effect.

CO Report:
Things have picked up since last reports. A new SOO and CMO are valuable additions to the crew, and will be very useful in broadening character development. I have been tied down in a plotline with the GM for the past week or so, but am now freer to engage with other characters, which I hope will stimulate posting even further. SB202 has a great deal of potential which is ripe for development, and I believe within a month or so the fruits of the effort everyone is putting in will show in terms of a vibrant, active starbase.

AFComm Report:
The starbase has had it's quiet moments again this month, but things are starting to pick up, as more plot developments unfold, and the stranged robed individuals try their hand at a bit of mind control. The posts are of a very good quality and the character interactions are definitely interesting. There is a definitely rapport between the BCO and the BXO, and the majority of the other officers seem to get on fine. It is still not exhibiting the same posting levels shown on both the Asimov and the Columbus, but we will get there, it has the potental, I'm sure of that. Not a bad month, all in all :)

Crell

Active Members: Larry Garfield, Deanne Ashton, Emma Rouse-Deane, Johnathan Hughes

Status:
Deanne's twisted mind is at it again, much to the joy of everyone involved. To add to the mess, Johno Hughes' character has turned up some interesting archeological finds, which threaten to unravel everything we know about galactic history. We are not amused. :-)
