Fleet History

Since its launch on Stardate 98030.0 as the third WeBB Fleet, the Fifth Fleet of STF has undergone a lot of changes, including Five Fleet Commanders, Ten Assistant Fleet Commanders, a handful of bad nicknames, and a myriad of ship shuffles, swaps, and commissionings.

Fifth Fleet's original Fleet Commander (FComm), B.J. Phillips, had been a STF WeBB member from almost the very beginning. His ship, the USS Olympic, moved to the new fleet as the flagship in March 1998. Fourth Fleet's USS Alliance also moved because her captain, Larry Garfield, was to serve as Assistant Fleet Commander (AFComm). Rounding out the first three ships was USS Andorian, which was recommissioned under the command of long-time STFer, Randy McCullick.

Fifth Fleet was an immediate success, breaking several STF posting records during the six-month Post War. The Andorian won the Most Active Ship Award and the Ship of the Month that first month, ultimately garnering the Flagship Award for its fleet. The fleet welcomed its fourth ship, USS Futura, an experimental transwarp vessel. Being co-designer, Phillips moved his command from the Olympic to the Futura. Only a month old and Fleet Five was a star.

But the glory wasn't to last. Real-life time pressures made Phillips a rare sight in STF, while a serious computer crash kept McCullick off the WeBB for about four months. As a result, both the Futura and Andorian's activity levels plummeted. AFComm Garfield was then offered the AFComm slot in Fourth Fleet. Garfield accepted, believing that his familiarity with that fleet's history made it the right place, and took the Alliance with him. The losses staggered the fleet.

It is said it is always darkest before the dawn. Fifth Fleet rebounded from its near-death experience. Jeremy Friedman took a brief stint as CO of the famed USS Andorian until its destruction, when he and all the crew were reassigned to the new USS Merlin. Under the new command of FComm Deanne Morgan and AFComm Nathan Miller, Fleet Five blossomed, with the addition of the USS Titania, an experimental self-RPG ship without a GM. After that, Nikolle Burchett led the fleet towards its present-day glory.

Next, under the leadership of FComm Brian Moss, CO of the USS Titania, and AFComm Jeremy Friedman, still CO of the Merlin, The newly-named Meridian Fleet (because of its location near the border between quadrants) made its presence as a great fleet of STF felt.  Brian Moss retired the position, however.  This brings us at last to our current staff, FComm Dustin Bukowski of the newly-added USS Draco and AFComm Nikolle Burchette continue to provide a quality role-playing environment.

Ships of the Fifth Fleet

Without further adieu, the ships of the Fifth Fleet:

USS Merlin: Commanded by Captain Jeremy Friedman, the Andromeda-class USS Merlin is a staple of the fleet.  While moderately armed with both weaponry and some of starfleet's newest electronic warfare equipment, the Merlin is primarily a diplomatic and scientific cruiser. This ship, with the zaniest (or most irritating, depending on your perspective) MOTD in STF recently underwent a change to self-RPG status.

USS Genesis: Under the command of Nikolle Burchette, the science-minded Genesis is the class ship of the same name, the Genesis-class Light Cruiser. The Genesis is also the flagship of the fleet.

USS Seraph: This Columbus class heavy cruiser, commanded by M. Bret Godfrey, engages in the general-purpose missions on which Star Trek is based. Its excellent MOTD keeps it as a steady ship with quality posting.

USS Kansas: This Kansas-class carrier, commanded by Butch Carter, is the only one of its kind in STF.  Its awards system keeps morale high and its unique environment ensures that it is a fascinating place to roleplay.

USS Draco: This Andromeda-class heavy cruiser is under the command of FComm Dustin Bukowski, and has the biggest guns in Fleet Five.  :)

USS Titania: This experimental, self-RPG daily-posting ship is one of several experimental fleet five ships (besides the Self-RPG USS Merlin and the USS Kansas Carrier). The small Titania-class science vessel is under the command of Scott Dale Robison.
