Fleet Captain Symon Silvester, Governor

Star Fleet Career Summary

Background

Symon Silvester was born on Earth in London. His father was a Star-fleet officer and his mother a respected lawyer. At age seven Symon’s mother died from an illness. Her decline and her eventual demise were pretty sudden. Symon was sent to live with his uncle and aunt until Symon’s father could return to Earth. After some long discussions, it was agreed Symon would go with his father to maintain a continuity. So from that point on Symon lived on a starship.

For the next seven years Symon moved from ship to ship following his father’s career and being tutored onboard. Eventually his father was appointed as Chief of Security of the USS Melbourne. Within a number of weeks the Melbourne was dispatched as flagship of the taskforce to defeat the Borg at Wolf 359.

The Melbourne was destroyed and the fourteen year old Symon was badly injured, but was one of the few survivors in the life pod. Later questioning revealed that Symon had been rescued by his father from the Borg as he laid injured and was placed on the lifepod, before his father returned to fight off more Borg. Denis Silvester’s body was never recovered and he was declared missing in action, presumed killed.

At fourteen Symon was effectively orphaned. Sent to live again with his relatives he failed to settle into their lives. At age 15 he was placed into a foster home but once more failed to settle. Eventually at the age of 16 Symon was sent to live in an orphanage. There he remained until he left for Star-fleet at 18.

Symon joined Star-fleet academy and entered in the security program. He minored in the command program. It was at Star-fleet academy that he started a life long friendship with Zanth Goldeneagle. There was an unsavory incident in the final year that nearly saw both Zanth and Symon expelled from the academy. A written reprimand was placed on both their files.

Despite this Symon graduated with honours and was sent on for further advanced tactical training. Finishing this he was then assigned to the security department of the USS Atlantis – which was to be his home for the next seven years.

Within a short period of time Symon was promoted to Lieutenant JG. Two years further on the COS left the ship and Symon was promoted to full Lieutenant and made acting Chief of Security. This position was later confirmed.

Three years later with a change of command on the Atlantis, Symon was promoted to Lieutenant Commander and made the ship’s second officer. It was at this time that the Atlantis was destroyed in the line of duty. Symon was the last officer to leave the dying ship and took the ship’s commissioning plate.

Appointed as second officer of the new Atlantis – A, Symon was leading an away team where he was severely injured in an explosion and suffered appalling head injuries. In the same explosion his fiancée, Dr Janzira Hawass was killed.

Symon awoke from a medically induced coma two months later after several neurological surgeries. During the long period of his recover he regained the use of his body and his faculties, but it was discovered that he suffered memory loss. Although over time and with counseling, most of these memories returned, it was found that the area of his memories involving romantic relationships was destroyed.

Symon had no memory of any romantic relationship he had, including his recently deceased fiancée. After the long period of his recovery he was posted to the Starbase staff for light duties. Within the year though Star-fleet recalled him to full duty. With the losses from the Dominion War new ships required experienced officers and Symon was promoted to Captain of the USS Discovery.

A year later he was reassigned to USS Agamemnon as Commanding Officer. It was there he met his current partner, Jira K’Marr who was Chief of Security. After two years in command, the Agamemnon was destroyed in a fierce battle. Captain Symon Silvester faced an initial board of enquiry for the loss of the Agamemnon. He was acquitted and given command of the USS Vanguard, a newly launched Dreadnought.

However, this command only lasted a few months before he was recalled to Earth to face a court martial regarding the loss of the Agamemnon. Not satisfied with the initial verdict of the Board of Inquiry, the Court Martial formally charged Symon for the loss of the Agamemnon. He was eventually acquitted once more, but medical diagnosis recognized the amount of stress he had been under in the last few years. So over his protests he was relieved of his command and sent on medical leave.

Having left K’Marr on the Vanguard, Symon considered that he had betrayed their relationship. He was unaware that she had been pregnant with their first child and had returned to Bajor to give birth. Niri only lived a few days and Symon never met his daughter.

Unaware of this development Symon retreated to Sirius 12, a large undeveloped planet, where he had been given some land. Sirius 12 only has one large town and Starport and is largely unsettled. Symon started with a plan to build a future home there.

When the project was close to completion, Symon was recalled to duty, but not to a starship. He was instead assigned as Military Governor of OEDV. A civilian colony only a few parsecs away from Sirius 12. There he was reunited with Jira K’Marr.

Some 18 months later Symon was promoted to Fleet Captain.

Medical History

Symon has had several difficult problems within his medical history.

During the encounter with the Borg when he was 14, Symon suffered severe head trauma. Although the injuries healed he was left with a horrific scar that started above his hairline and traveled backwards across his skull. Symon was offered the opportunity to remove the scar through cosmetic surgery, but has refused to do so. Conversely he has taken to wearing his hair slicked back and carefully arranged to cover the scar. During his early career Symon became a borderline alcoholic. He started to drink to unwind after shifts, but slowly started to become dependent on alcohol. Eventually he started to drink on duty……not so much as to be drunk, but enough. His situation was caught by the Atlantis doctor at the time. Rather than report him, Dr Schwarzkopf helped him through the crisis period in his life. Since that time Symon has barely ever touched alcohol again. The last medical incident involved the explosion whilst on the Away team on the Atlantis. The explosion that killed his fiancée, once more caused Symon severe head trauma. After several months of recovery it was discovered that there was some permanent damage done to the memory core. His memories regarding relationships were destroyed.

Psychological Evaluation

Symon Silvester is an intensely private man. He is given to bouts of self doubt and depression. Losing his parents at an early age made Symon retreat further into himself and he can come across very cold.

He has been faced with adversity throughout his life but has shown strength and depth in character to come through it each time. However, he does blame himself for decisions he has made.

Symon is also haunted by nightmares that he has suffered since Wolf 359 concerning his father and the Borg. Since the nightmares come and go at times of stress and meaning within his life.

Regarding his memory loss, although Symon has come to terms with it having happened, he is secretly afraid of what else he may have lost or forgotten. He fears he is half a man and not what he used to be.

Two years ago Symon was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. He was given medical leave for a year but was recalled to duty within that time to resume his duties.
