Sarah was born near Madison, WI to Alyssa Martin. Alyssa was a single mother that worked hard to provide for Sarah. While not wealthy, Sarah and Alyssa lived comfortably on Alyssa’s salary from her job as a reporter. Alyssa ensured that Sarah had the best education that she could.

Sarah’s childhood was spent going between her mother’s home and her grandparents. Memaw and Pawpaw (as Sarah called them) indulged Sarah’s curious nature. Living on a large plot of land, Pawpaw would arrange scavenger hunts for Sarah to entertain her and educate her. Pawpaw would leave clues in the form of riddles that Sarah would have to solve. These were bonding times for child and grandfather.

While Pawpaw did things outdoors for Sarah, Memaw did things inside. Memaw taught Sarah to cook, sew and other domestic things. Memaw also taught Sarah about gardening and canning. Sarah enjoyed spending time with Memaw and Pawpaw. Sarah’s favorite times were the weekends that she spent with her mother.

Alyssa taught Sarah to be independent and how to take care of herself. Their times together were spent exploring Sarah’s creativity, likes and dislikes. Alyssa learned as much from Sarah as Sarah learned from her. Sarah grew into an independent young woman.

As a teenager, Sarah began asking questions about her father. Alyssa finally admitted that it was a very brief relationship and when Alyssa learned that she was pregnant, she left and did not tell Sarah’s father. Little was known about him and Alyssa did not know where to tell Sarah to start looking for him. After some initial disappointment, Sarah accepted that she would not know her father and moved on.

During high school, Sarah developed a fondness for flying and took lessons. Becoming a licensed pilot, flying was a way for Sarah to be free and explore. When in the cockpit, Sarah was able to relax and refocus. The stipulation for Sarah to continue flying was she had to maintain a B average in school. High School allowed, Sarah to focus on her second passion, medicine and languages. At an early age, Sarah learned Vulcan. As she grew, she also learned German, French and Italian.

Also in high school, Sarah focused on learning other alien languages in addition to her regular studies, she also began studying emergency medicine and medicine in general. After graduation, Sarah attended University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and completed her medical training. Sarah joined Star Fleet and attended the Academy and continued studying medicine.

Sarah’s first assignment after graduating from the academy, she was assigned to the USS Jackson. Transferring two years later she was assigned to the USS Saracene.
