: : : : : : : : : : : : IC: "Let's see," Setik said, heading over to Andrews' biobed to get both the latest readings and do his own examination. He saw he was in relatively stable condition, and was very interested to try and find out how he'd gotten infected.
: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : He found it relatively quickly: a cut on the thumb.
: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : "Lieutenant," he said, waving over to Kasumi. "Come look at this."
: : : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : : He pulled out his tricorder and started a scan around the cut. If there was a concentration of microbes around the cut, Setik began to theorise, then that was where they entered his bloodstream, from when he was cleaning up after Koats. Which meant that as long as everybody kept themselves together, and they could get the microbes out of Koats and Andrews, maybe, just maybe, they'd get the whole thing solved.

: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : Kasumi walked over and looked at the thumb. "Ouch. That had to hurt. That must be the access the bugs needed. I guess I'm lucky I don't have any cuts. So, how do we fix this? They are still using them as incubators, and the treatment simply isn't working fast enough."
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : OOC: Thank you oh GM-y one!!!
: : : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : : -Lt (j.g.) Kasumi, sci
: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : Indeed there was a concentration of microbes there :)
: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : SJ-GM
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : "Indeed it is the access point," Setik said. "And how to fix this is probably going to be difficult. If they're being used as incubators, like we did with Koats, we need to cool him down. Find the point where it'll kill the microbes in his system, and hope it's before the point that'll kill his system."

: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : "What if we do what they did in the late 20th century and purposefully induce hypothermia? Take them down to about 50 degrees, and see if that kills the bugs. The computer can monitor the vital signs and raise the temperature if it gets to dangerous."
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : -Lt (j.g) Kasumi, sci
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : "Sounds like as good a plan as any," Setik said. "If not, we can always try something else." Turning to the computer, Setik began making the preparations to lower Andrews' body temp.
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : CMO
: : : : : :
: : : : : : The preparations were not hard or long to make; within minutes the preparations were complete. All that was ready was Andrews' cooperation in the matter, which, since he was unconscious, was not hard to gain.

: : : : :
: : : : : "Let's get this thing moving," Setik said, rubbing his hands together in a mad scientist fashion. He began to slowly cool down Andrews, by 1 degree per 30 seconds.
: : : : :
: : : : : CMO
: : : :
: : : : His system, strained as it was, settled into a kind of induced uncertainty - whether it couldn't decide that it just wanted to shut down or to relax with the lower body temperature. Ultimately, though, his system 'relaxed' in the colder water releasing the strain that was upon it.

: : : Kasumi watched for several minutes to see that her idea was working, then turned to the CMO.
: : :
: : : "With your permission, I'd like to get back to the lab and analyze the corpse we have waiting there."
: : :
: : : -Lt (j.g.) Kasumi, CSO
: :
: : "Go ahead," Setik said. "If something goes wrong here, I'll call you. And remember, don't cut yourself."
: :
: : He returned his attention to Andrews, watching to see confirmation that the microbes had frozen to death.
: :
: : CMO
:
: The microbes attempted to burrow into cell walls to retain heat if they could .. after a time many were floating in the arteries unmoving. Were they dormant? Just cold? Dead?

: SJ-GM
"Cool," Setik quipped, going over to fetch a set of Salat's nanites. Now that the microbes had been immobilised, it should be a turkey shoot.
