: : : : : : : : : : Peter stepped through the doors of sickbay, he wasn't looking forward to a medical although he knew it was a necessary part of joining any new crew.
: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : He stepped over to a free doctor, "Hi, I'm Lieutenant Peter Daedalus, I've just come aboard, I was wondering if anyone was available to preform a medical".
: : : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : : - Lieut (j.g.) Peter Daedalus
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : "Sure," Setik said from a spot leaning against the wall. "My pre-formed opinion says you're fit for duty, save for a minor speech impediment. Now, if you'd like me to PERform a medical, nice use of British lingo, by the way, it's the best way to get on my good side, step over here."
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : OOC: Sorry if that comes off a little harsh...but you should know Setik is modeled a bit like Dr. Gregory House. So he can be a bit caustic, and sarcastic, at times, especially towards new people who he only expects to see once or twice a year. It's not personal, I promise.
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : CMO
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : Peter gave a small smile, his father would have picked him up on exactly the same thing "Of course Doctor", he stepped over to where Setik indicated "I should really think before opening my mouth, it's got a tendency to run away with itself".
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : - Lieut (j.g.) Peter Daedalus
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : "Happens to the best of us," Setik said. "Makes me wonder how we haven't figured out how to develop a mental spell-check yet, if our computerised AIs can do it. Anyway, Lieutenant, what's your name and department?"
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : CMO
: : : : : :
: : : : : : "I could defiantly do with a mental spell-check, my names Peter Daedalus, I've just joined the science department" Peter said.
: : : : : :
: : : : : : - Peter Daedalus
: : : : :
: : : : : "Explains the blue collar," Setik said. "Daedalus...wow, the Greek mythology class I took for a gag is rushing back like a bad margarita."
: : : : :
: : : : : When Peter sat down, Setik activated the bioscanner. "Smooth trip here?"
: : : : :
: : : : : CMO
: : : :
: : : : "I think the pilot may have been reasonably new, he seemed keen on 'testing' what the shuttle could do initially, but he settled down after awhile and the rest of the journey was rather uneventful", Peter said with a half smile, "As for my surname, on the colony I came from many of the families have ancient Greek names, which is odd as no matter how hard I tried I've never been able to find a reason why?".
: : : :
: : : : "So Doc, am I fit for duty, or do I need to do a few more press-ups" Peter joked.
: : : :
: : : : - Lieut (j.g.) Peter Daedalus
: : :
: : : "When it comes to naming, it's Greek to me," Setik cracked back. "But you seem to be within the parameters for fitness. More press-ups couldn't hurt, though. Especially if you're trying to hook up with a special someone."
: : :
: :
: : "Anybody I should look out for" Peter said with a cheeky smile "Thanks for the medical, I'd say see you soon, but I really hope I don't end up in sickbay any time soon".
: :
: : - Lieut (j.g.) Peter Daedalus
:
: "Nobody does," Setik said. "Don't worry, I don't take it personally. See you, Lieutenant."
:
: CMO

"Goodbye doctor" Peter said pleasantly before heading off to see the counselor. He was glad to be in good health and he always felt he got on with doctors as he came from a medical family but he wasn't looking forward to speaking to the counselor.

: =^= "Quirst to Eagle. What is your status down there? Are you ready to beam up?" =^=
:
: There was a pause. "Sir, Transporter Room standing by."

=^= Mr. Eagle, we are reading heightened gamma ray emissions coming from the Station. Repeat, what is your status? =^=

Peyton was starting to get concerned. The heightened radiation levels coincided with the station getting its power source again. Not a believer in coincidence, he could clearly see what was happening. Did the Away Team?

Sickbay on USS Victorious

: Posted by Gamemaster [GM] Strandedjedi (GM) in Sickbay
: Snip
:
: : : The heart seemed to have taken the worst brunt of the damages, though there was cellular damage throughout. It would take time but he would recover after treatment. The heart was the one to focus on at this time.
: : :
: : : SJ-GM
: : :
: : : OOC: Well you didn't say that the nanites were from the Dalek Corporation. <G>
: :
: : OOC: Just as well, we don't need a time-traveler dropping in to stop us <BG>
: :
: : IC: "Hmm," Setik said. Most of the damage seemed to be centred on the aorta, so what he needed was a treatment that would repair or replace that. Of course, there was always the option of replacing the whole blasted thing...
: :
:
: A figure peeked over Setik's shoulder. When he may turn to see who it is, the tall fellow with large curious eyes and a beak to fit it held out his hand. In it was a paper bag. "Jelly Belly?" he offered.
:
: SJ-GM

OOC: Ahaha!

IC: "Don't mind if I do," Setik said, picking out a candy and popping it in his mouth, chewing thoughtfully.

"I think I'll go with the artificial heart," he mused. "It's quicker and easier than cloning."

Councellors office on USS Victorious

: Posted by Fleet Captain Peyton R. Quirst (CO) in Councellors office
: : "On the other hand, I am a supporter of the program and believe that every good offier deserves a chance to prove themselves."
: :
: : "Well maybe they should start by finding a good officer." Miessa sneered.
:
: "I'm also concerned about the overall acceptence of my new First Officer. They have burned several bridges in the past few years with many in Starfleet. many races may not want them back, or even accept them. Much less have one of them as a command officer." Peyton replied.

Miessa worked to keep her sneer under controll. She was a CNS and she'd better start acting like one.

"Acceptance is a very important thing for all branches of Star Fleet. I suppose we should do anything we can to further that concept. You and I both know that, in this case, it won't be easy. Sometime bridges are burned for very good reasons."

She got up from behind her desk and replicated some tea.

: : If it were anyone else standing in front of her desk, Miessa would feel that she had herself under control. But she knew that Vulcans were very good at sensing emotions in others even if they didn't show them themselves.
: :
: : "Yes, we do. Your record really does speak for itself. What I would like to know is why you decided to join Star Fleet, an organization obviously frought with emotions."
: :
: : The picture on her desk changed to a panoramic view of a sweeping snowscape.
:
: "Admittedly, it is trying at times to be around so many emotionally driven individuals, but I have found that at times their emotions still bring them to logical conclusions," Salat said. "Despite their tendency to be driven by emotion, they are also very inventive. Vulcan science at times can be limited by its own logic. For instance, it took centuries for the Vulcan Science Ministry to acknowledge that time travel was possible. Humans lacking in logic were willing to explore those possibilities and proved that it could be done. Though I embrace logic, I believe that human illogic is part of the Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations that bring balance to the universe."
:
: NL Salat, med

Miessa was not usually a racist but, if a Klingon or Bolian had said that to her, she would have laughed.

"So the emotions of other races are beneficial. Was that a surprise to you?"

Space Station on USS Victorious

: Posted by Lieut (j.g.) Mora Tamar (Doctor) in Space Station
: : Posted by Gamemaster [GM] Strandedjedi (GM) in Space Station
: : : Posted by Lieutenant Aries Phommavanh (Security officer) in Space Station
: : : While the main 'bulb' in the center seemed to be the primary energy source, the green 'goop' that was part and parcel of the entire station too held energy and may have been linked to the primary 'bulb' where they were. The whole station started to gradually glow more with a bright emerald glow that permeated the chambers. Even the away team started looking a bit green.
: : : : :
: : : : : SJ-GM
: : : :
: : : : "I have no idea what is happening, but I suggest we get out of here as everyone looks like they are getting radiation poisoning!" Henry said half sarcastically half serious.
: : : :
: : : : Lt jg Patnick, CE
: : :
: : : Aries brings out his tricorder and quickly scans the area. "M'raan can you confirm the same readings?"

M'raan wasn't able to confirm anything, as he had yet to achieve any success with understanding the function of the room he was in. The various displays were confusing. He couldn't tell what was a recorded image from those that were live. He had set his tricorder to record everything. There would be time for exprerts to study them later.
: :
: : Remembering that you are all in EVA suits which could take a bit more of a pounding for radiation, it was more the 'look' that was interesting than the danger. There was an increase in gamma radiation that was being emitted from the walls and core energy sources. At the moment it was not dangerous to the away team or suits, though it may become so if the energy levels didn't level out or stop.
: :
: : Estimated time of reaching a dangerous level would be within 5 minutes, give or take.
: :
: : SJ-GM
:
: Tamar used her tricorder to take a reading of the environment to see if there were life threatening changes to the environment.
:
: "My tricorder shows that we have about five minutes to get out of here before we reach dangerous radiation levels," Tamar said. "That mean's it's time to get the helmet's back on and get out."
:
: -Lt. (j.g.) Mora Tamar, med

ooc: Sorry guys. Real life had me outnumbered this past week...Lloyd

ic: M'raan promptly removed his helmet from his belt and placed it over his head. He hated the sensation this caused. He didn't know if the claustrophobia was a racial flaw or his own. He had always been too embarrassed to ask.

When he may turn to see who it is, the tall fellow with large curious eyes and a beak to fit it held out his hand. In it was a paper bag. "Jelly Belly?" he offered.
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : Later, with the venom removed and analyzed, she reported. "Lt, the venom is mostly harmless. It has a sting equivalent to that of an average earth honey bee to induce paralysis. This would be effective only on small creatures about its size or smaller, however if a larger creature were swarmed it could affect them in the same way."
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : T'dira
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : "That matches with what we saw on the surface and the bite that Koats first received. Go ahead and remove the venom sac for further analysis later. I'm more worried about that egg sac. Let's be very careful as we remove it."
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : Kasumi carefully helped remove the venom and egg sacs. She was a bit worried that something might still be viable in the sac, but was hoping that the cryostorage had killed everything.
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : -Lt (j.g.) Kasumi, CSO
: : : : : :
: : : : : : The egg was partially 'attached' much like the venom sac to the same stinger. Just as the venom was injected into the hapless prey, the eggs were injected into the new host. By themselves, it looked like unless the eggs were injected and 'hatched' they weren't going to go anywhere. Though the 'laid' and 'hatched' times did seem to have something to do with the host - body temperature reactions, etc.
: : : : : :
: : : : : : SJ-GM
: : : : :
: : : : : Kasumi carefully detached the egg sac and set it aside for further analysis. "T'dira, go ahead and drop the precautions around the corpse and dissect as normal. I'll handle the egg sac. I'll need a good view at the stinger once you have finished your analysis of it for the venom."
: : : :
: : : : "Yes, Lt," T'dira said, looking down at the remains of the small creature as if contemplating what would be the next logical place to carry on. "I'll forward a high resolution image of the tail section to you." She moved the dissection table over to an image scanner and initiated the 360 degree scan. That would take a few minutes so she brought up some of the data collected thus far to study.
: : : : :
: : : : : She took the egg sac to a private section of the lab and once again raised the precautions. Just because the thing looked dead and acted dead was no reason to drop your guard. Carefully she slit open the outside of the sac and looked within.
: : : : :
: : : : : -Lt (j.g.) Kasumi, CSO
: : : :
: : : : It was a tad anti-climactic really. The sac was made up of several chambers that were loosely segregated by fine filament like webs. By all appearances the scans of the different areas denoted eggs of differing maturity - those with the eggs closest to the tail assembly would be the most mature.
: : : :
: : : : SJ-GM
: : :
: : : Kasumi took an egg from each chamber for further study. She then put the remainder of the egg sac into a bin and back into the storage room, all neatly labeled.
: : :
: : : "Computer, please analyze each egg sample and give approximation of the amount of time it would take for the egg to be mature enough to be implanted."
: : :
: : : -Lt (j.g.) Kasumi, CSO
: :
: : The ones nearest to the 'tail' would come up by the computer as nearly mature enough to mature. It was giving an approximation on that as it wasn't entirely sure given the lack of specific background information. It did say that it would possibly be ready now or very soon.
: :
: : Further chambers beyond would show that each was perhaps weeks apart in maturity, each chamber a fairly linear line of maturation.
: :
: : SJ-GM
:
: OOC: This is kinda useless huh?
OOC: Good science, though :)
:
: IC: "Computer, cross reference these samples with the samples taken in sickbay of the parasites in Koats and Andrews and extroplate the approximate maturation time from the first chamber to implantation."
:
: -Lt (j.g.) Kasumi, CSO

The maturation time, if the GM is understanding the question right, is approximately 8 weeks from the first chamber to readiness in implantation. As an added note, the 'eggs' are virtually ready to hatch at that time. All it seemed to be waiting for was the implantation into the host to be freed from the egg to begin its next stage of developing.

: : : : : : While the main 'bulb' in the center seemed to be the primary energy source, the green 'goop' that was part and parcel of the entire station too held energy and may have been linked to the primary 'bulb' where they were. The whole station started to gradually glow more with a bright emerald glow that permeated the chambers. Even the away team started looking a bit green.
: : : : : : : "I have no idea what is happening, but I suggest we get out of here as everyone looks like they are getting radiation poisoning!" Henry said half sarcastically half serious.
: : : : : : Aries brings out his tricorder and quickly scans the area. "M'raan can you confirm the same readings?"
: : :
: : : M'raan wasn't able to confirm anything, as he had yet to achieve any success with understanding the function of the room he was in. The various displays were confusing. He couldn't tell what was a recorded image from those that were live. He had set his tricorder to record everything. There would be time for exprerts to study them later.
: : : : :
: : : : : Remembering that you are all in EVA suits which could take a bit more of a pounding for radiation, it was more the 'look' that was interesting than the danger. There was an increase in gamma radiation that was being emitted from the walls and core energy sources. At the moment it was not dangerous to the away team or suits, though it may become so if the energy levels didn't level out or stop.
: : : : :
: : : : : Estimated time of reaching a dangerous level would be within 5 minutes, give or take.
: : : : Tamar used her tricorder to take a reading of the environment to see if there were life threatening changes to the environment.
: : : :
: : : : "My tricorder shows that we have about five minutes to get out of here before we reach dangerous radiation levels," Tamar said. "That mean's it's time to get the helmet's back on and get out."
: : : : : : : Posted by Gamemaster [GM] Strandedjedi (GM) in Science Lab
: : : : : : : Snip
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : T'dira gave Kasumi a raised eyebrow 'that's a bit overkill' look, though said, "That is a logical precaution," and set the instruments down and proceeded to seek out a suit.
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : Later, with the venom removed and analyzed, she reported. "Lt, the venom is mostly harmless. It has a sting equivalent to that of an average earth honey bee to induce paralysis. This would be effective only on small creatures about its size or smaller, however if a larger creature were swarmed it could affect them in the same way."
: : : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : : T'dira
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : "That matches with what we saw on the surface and the bite that Koats first received. Go ahead and remove the venom sac for further analysis later. I'm more worried about that egg sac. Let's be very careful as we remove it."
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : Kasumi carefully helped remove the venom and egg sacs. She was a bit worried that something might still be viable in the sac, but was hoping that the cryostorage had killed everything.
: : : : : : : :
: : : : : : : : -Lt (j.g.) Kasumi, CSO
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : The egg was partially 'attached' much like the venom sac to the same stinger.
: : : : : : :
: : : : : : : SJ-GM
: : : : : :
: : : : : : Kasumi carefully detached the egg sac and set it aside for further analysis. "T'dira, go ahead and drop the precautions around the corpse and dissect as normal. I'll handle the egg sac. I'll need a good view at the stinger once you have finished your analysis of it for the venom."
: : : : :
: : : : : "Yes, Lt," T'dira said, looking down at the remains of the small creature as if contemplating what would be the next logical place to carry on. "I'll forward a high resolution image of the tail section to you." She moved the dissection table over to an image scanner and initiated the 360 degree scan. That would take a few minutes so she brought up some of the data collected thus far to study.
: : : : : :
: : : : : : She took the egg sac to a private section of the lab and once again raised the precautions. Just because the thing looked dead and acted dead was no reason to drop your guard. Carefully she slit open the outside of the sac and looked within.
: : : : : :
: : : : : : -Lt (j.g.) Kasumi, CSO
: : : : :
: : : : : It was a tad anti-climactic really. The sac was made up of several chambers that were loosely segregated by fine filament like webs. By all appearances the scans of the different areas denoted eggs of differing maturity - those with the eggs closest to the tail assembly would be the most mature.
: : : : :
: : : : : SJ-GM
: : : :
: : : : Kasumi took an egg from each chamber for further study. She then put the remainder of the egg sac into a bin and back into the storage room, all neatly labeled.
: : : :
: : : : "Computer, please analyze each egg sample and give approximation of the amount of time it would take for the egg to be mature enough to be implanted."
: : : :
: : : : -Lt (j.g.) Kasumi, CSO
: : :
: : : The ones nearest to the 'tail' would come up by the computer as nearly mature enough to mature. It was giving an approximation on that as it wasn't entirely sure given the lack of specific background information. It did say that it would possibly be ready now or very soon.
: : :
: : : Further chambers beyond would show that each was perhaps weeks apart in maturity, each chamber a fairly linear line of maturation.
: : :
: : : SJ-GM
: :
: : OOC: This is kinda useless huh?
: OOC: Good science, though :)
: :
: : IC: "Computer, cross reference these samples with the samples taken in sickbay of the parasites in Koats and Andrews and extroplate the approximate maturation time from the first chamber to implantation."
: :
: : -Lt (j.g.) Kasumi, CSO
:
: The maturation time, if the GM is understanding the question right, is approximately 8 weeks from the first chamber to readiness in implantation. As an added note, the 'eggs' are virtually ready to hatch at that time. All it seemed to be waiting for was the implantation into the host to be freed from the egg to begin its next stage of developing.
:
: SJ-GM

OOC: Thanks, and yes you did understand the question. :)

IC: "Computer, given the nature of the bugs and Koats and Andrews' bodies, is it possible to determine the optimal incubation site for this creature? Also, can you tell me the least hospitable enviornment?"

: : : : : Gratz Tara. And without technobabble us engineers would basically be saying...Its broke and we will fix it.
: : :
: : : To the engineers: Without technobabble, the science department would just be saying... We ain't got a clue, but hopefully soon we will!
: : :
: : : -Tara
: : And you think we do!!! The only rule of engineering I follow is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." :p
: :
: Congratulations Tara...Lloyd

Thanks Lloyd.

So far the hardest thing is remembering to put CSO and sci!!!

<snip>
: :
: : "Admittedly, it is trying at times to be around so many emotionally driven individuals, but I have found that at times their emotions still bring them to logical conclusions," Salat said.
: :
: : NL Salat, med
:
: Miessa was not usually a racist but, if a Klingon or Bolian had said that to her, she would have laughed.
:
: "So the emotions of other races are beneficial. Was that a surprise to you?"
:
: CNS

"It continually surprises me, counselor," Salat said. "Though I wouldn't go so far as to say that it is beneficial, it does arrive at unexpected conclusions. Whether they prove to be beneficial depends on how the discoveries are ultimately put to use. At times the benefits are limited by the emotions of those who made the discovery."

: Posted by Fleet Captain Peyton R. Quirst (CO) in Bridge
: =^= Mr. Eagle, we are reading heightened gamma ray emissions coming from the Station. Repeat, what is your status? =^=
: Peyton was starting to get concerned. The heightened radiation levels coincided with the station getting its power source again. Not a believer in coincidence, he could clearly see what was happening. Did the Away Team?

=^=I assume it's part of the re-charging process. I'd reccomend getting M'Raan and Tamar back to the ship. We still don't have the data core, but me, Henry and Aries can handle a little radiation, and we've got EVA suits if things start getting too hot. Of course, it's your call.=^=

Within a flashing swirl of blue light, the two officers rematerialized on the Victorious.

Councellors office on USS Victorious

: Posted by Fleet Captain Peyton R. Quirst (CO) in Councellors office
: : : "I personally haven't had dealings with this race, but I have heard some of the horror stories from crew members on the opposite side of the conflict."
:
: "Her name is Bitra Nerat. She appearently joined the program shortly after the peace accords, but has yet to find a suitable ship. Aren't we lucky?"

Miessa just shook her head slightly as the picture in the frame changed from a glorious snowscape to a stark desert.

"All the more reason for me to put a little more bridge time in. I will do my best to fulfill your requirements in a professional manner but, don't be surprised if I end up smashing plates on the holodeck in my spare time. Maybe I should take up meditation."

Counsellor's office on USS Victorious

: : : "Admittedly, it is trying at times to be around so many emotionally driven individuals, but I have found that at times their emotions still bring them to logical conclusions," Salat said.
: : "So the emotions of other races are beneficial. Was that a surprise to you?"
Whether they prove to be beneficial depends on how the discoveries are ultimately put to use. At times the benefits are limited by the emotions of those who made the discovery."
