General Overview
Valens Aran has a fiery personality, bordering on the arrogant - Frankly, he is a smart-alec. This, combined with his attitude to his superiors, has got him in trouble more than once. However, when you get to know him, he isn’t really like this at all. Nobody knows why he projects this facade on the world, and it is doubtful that anyone ever will.

Strengths & Weaknesses
Valens Aran is a brash know-it-all with a passion for power. However, what he loses in his personality, he makes up for in his immense skill, knowledge and passion for all things mechanical, electrical, structural, and computational, and it is this which has secured his position on the ship. His need to prove himself to the father he admired but never knew is a powerful emotional anchor for him.

History
Born on Earth, to Status Aran and Aura Josephina. He was brought up by his mother, his father having gone missing shortly after his birth leaving only an antique hovercar and a complete carbon copy of his personality imprinted on his son, much to the dismay of his mother - Aura Josephina and Status Aran had had a fiery relationship, being engaged four times and married only twice. Aura was the daughter of of a Deuterium Synthesis magnate, and thusly Valens was brought up in a wealthy household. Aura had not told Valens anything about his father, except that he was a brilliant physicist and engineer who had died in a hovercar accident.

He attended the best private schools in the area, and took a twin degree in Core Physics and Structural Engineering, with post-graduate courses in the fields of Fluid Dynamics, Warp Field Mechanics, Advanced Computing, Starship and Support Craft Drafting & Design, and Properties of M/AM. On top of this seven-year-course, he completed the coveted Brotherhood of Mechanics Masters and filed over seventy patents. Valens had no idea what to do with his life, so he decided to continue in the thing he loved - improving himself as a physicist and engineer, in his father’s footsteps.
However, upon completing his education, his mother finally told him the truth - his father had been a Starfleet officer, and had left her to bring him up alone. More to the point, he was probably alive.

This inspired Valens. He immediately enrolled in Starfleet Academy, to follow in his father’s footsteps.
