Spec: Governor-class Destroyer on Engineering Department

: Round Three... Go! Review ends April 28th.

Time to earn my cookie. Once again I am using my Canadian spell-checker and Canadian English Dictionary. :) I have removed all sections I am not commenting on to save space. I apologize if I am duplicating others comments, I have not had enough time to read through all of the other reviews.

: Governor Class <-Light-> Destroyer

"Light" should be "Medium."

: Category : Destroyer (TOS)
: Variant: Medium
: Primary Designer: Andrew Robinson
: Mark: I
: Draft: 3

: History and Mission Overview

: A lighter, more manoeuvreable and more rapidly constructed craft was required to patrol the neutral zone and respond to any incursions from the faster and more manoeuvreable Klingon Bird of Prey and its larger cousins.

"Manoeuvrable." And this last sentence seems a bit long to me. Can you break it into two sentences?
Example:
"A lighter, more manoeuvrable and more rapidly constructed craft was required to patrol the Klingon neutral zone. This was in direct response to increasing incursions by the faster and more agile Birds of Prey and their larger cousins."

: Development contracts were assigned to Starfleet Research and Development with the intent of attempting to shrink the Constitution frame whilst increasing overall speed and sustainability whilst causing minimum reduction in weapons usage.

This sentence also seems to long.

: During its shakedown cruise, deliberately sited around the Klingon Neutral Zone, a confrontation with a Klingon D-5 cruiser which ended in victory for the Governor produced such excited murmuring in Starfleet Engineering that it was determined that a further twenty Governor class ships would be produced immediately.

And this last one here.

: Structure and Construction

: The Governor's hull is composed of a duranium-tritanium alloy in a 30cm double layer separated with 15cm of enriched duraplast foam. The outer layer of hull plating is in a state of permanent polarisation to enable greater unprotected resistance to enemy weapons fire.

"Polarization."

: An emergency impulse drive is contained within the star drive, allowing the star drive, once seperated to operate at impulse speeds up to .15c.

"Separated."

: Provided the warp core is viable, the star drive section will operate at normal warp speeds after the default warp field geometry is manually adjusted to a predetermined seperation setting.

"Separation."

: Science and Remote Sensing Systems

: Each sensor can be operated independantly or in series in both passive and active data collection mode.

"Independently."

: Through the application of high power emissions diodes, the sensor array can be utilised as a jamming system to prevent enemy vessels from sending or receiving transmissions.

"Utilized."

: It should be noted that effecting this jamming system also prevents the jamming vessel from utilising their own communications systems.

"Utilizing." And I think you should change "effecting" to "operating."

: Whilst not a science vessel by design, the Governor does carry 20 empty torpedo cases which can, at need be configured for scientific or exploratory purposes.

The 20 should be changed to 30.

: Computer Systems

: The primary core is located in the center of decks 3, 4, and 5 of the saucer section, with the smaller back up core in the centre aft of the secondary hull of decks eleven and twelve..

"Centre," and you have an extra "." at the end of that sentence.

: In an emergency, it can be reconfigured to operate the Governor's primary systems such as navigation, propulsion, weapons, shields and life support, though on a limited capacity.

How long does it take to reconfigure the core and to what extent are the systems limited?

: Warp Propulsion Systems

What about the engine nacelles?

: Impulse Propulsion Systems

: In the event of saucer separation or primary fusion generator failure, a series of three micro-fusion reactors powering three adjustable vector exhaust vents mounted in the neck of the secondary hull are revealed through a group of retracting hull plates.

This is another long sentence. Also, are these engines near the top of the neck? In the middle? Or near the base? If they were near the top, I imagine there would be some danger of them being damaged during the separation sequence. Explosive bolts can sometimes be unpredictable.

: The auxiliary deuterium tank is located in the center portion of Deck-8 in the Secondary Hull.

"Centre."

: Tactical Systems

: Defensive Shields

: During alert status, the shield generators can combine to provide a continuous gravitation load of 672 MW with a maximum primary energy dissipation rate of 1.8 x 10^5kw.

The dissipation rate has not changed from the previous version. As I stated then I believe this number should half of what it currently is.

TNG: "Yesterday's Enterprise." Tasha says, "Our heat dissipation rates are probably double those of the Enterprise-C, which means we can hang in a firefight a lot longer."

: Phaser Systems

: The central portion of the star drive section is vulnerable to attack with no side mounted phaser systems and the ship must be reliant upon the Navigator and Weapons Officers skill to maintain the security of the star drive section from flanking attacks..

Apostrophe on "Officer's," and there is an extra "." at the end of that sentence.

: Each phaser bank can be operated at full power for twenty two minutes before the batteries are drained and must undergo a nine minute recharge cycle.

A hyphen should be placed between "twenty-two."

There is also no mention of the "phaser control" room(s).

: Torpedo Systems

: The Governor utilises two torpedo tubes, both located at the forward edge of the star drive.

"Utilizes."

: It must then be manually maneouvered into the tube using a locking pin which releases it from the lifting rack.

"Manoeuvred."

: Once the inner torpedo hatch is closed, the torpedo is locked into the launching mechanism which is capable of firing either fore or aft from the forward edge of the star drive directly below the main deflector dish.

"The torpedoes are capable of tracking individually through the full 360-degrees, allowing targets outside the firing arc of the launchers to be engaged." This might sound better than "capable of firing fore or aft," as this makes it sound as if the launcher has two exits.

: Command and Support Systems

: Bridge

: At center is the Captain's chair, with the Helmsman and Navigator's seats directly ahead.

"Centre."

: The Bridge is located at the center of deck 1.

"Centre."

: Auxiliary Control

: In the star drive, Main Engineering serves as auxillary control, with primary systems being routed through an auxillary control room located just off the Chief Engineers office.

Two instances of "Auxiliary" should be corrected.

: This control room has customisable stations capable of controlling each of the ships primary functions, but in four person mode the default stations are Navigation/Tactical, Conn and Science.

"Customizable," and how are the buttons and switches going to be assigned alternate functions? More importantly, how will the operator know which button will do which function when it has been changed?

: Armory

"Armoury."

: The Ship's Armory is located on Deck 8, directly above the Torpedo Room. The Armory is stocked with a usual complement of 50 Type-I hand phasers, 100 Type-II hand phasers, 100 Type-III phaser rifles, 75 sets of body armor, 120 Anastazine gas grenades, 120 concussion grenades, and 120 photon grenades.

"Anesthizine."

: Each locker contains 12 Type-II hand phasers, two tricorders and twenty four spare power packs with an effective life of forty five maximum setting shots each.

There should be hyphens in "twenty-four" and "forty-five." Also, the Type-II Phasers in TNG have a power cell which holds 4.5x10^7 MJ. A single 0.28 second level 16 discharge uses 1.55x10^6 MJ. This means the TNG Type-II has enough energy for 29 discharges of 0.28 seconds each on level 16 before it is exhausted. I would expect the phasers in TOS to be equal to this level of performance at best, but feel that they would be less powerful or would have a smaller energy cell.

: Brig

: The cells themselves utilise a series of two recessed forcefield generators which deliver a painful, but relatively harmless shock to anyone who touches the field whilst active.

"Utilize." Also, I would expect the electro-magnetic (EM) effects of a forcefield shock to be equivalent to a phaser on light stun, which would make them more like a modern day Taser. If the person were suffering from certain medical conditions or their physiology was susceptible to electrical energy it could prove quite dangerous. I would change that last sentence to state that it is, "relatively harmless to most humanoid species."

: The protein resequencer is capable of transforming bulk protein into a variety of simple chain food stuffs such as ice cream, meats and potatoes.

In the Galley section you state that the synthesizer is incapable of producing, "food stuffs with a complex layered formation as found in a turkey leg (with fat, bone and skin attached to the meat), or the fibrous consistency of fresh fruits and vegetables."

: Main Engineering

: Main Engineering is located near the center of the secondary hull on Decks 11 and 12.

"Centre."

: The warp core lays horizontal along the floor of Deck 12 and runs from fore to aft, separated from the main engineering bay by a series of hatchwork grids.

These "hatchwork grids" are still causing me problems. I have always considered them "decorative grills." Also, is there an easy way to access the warp core? Can you remove the "grids" if needed or is there a door?

: The Chief Engineers office has a set of monitoring screens directly behind his desk which provide customisable readouts listing the status of any of the primary systems aboard ship.

"Customizable."

: Utility Systems

: Cargo Bays

: Each cargo bay is equipped with two entrances, one opening towards outer space for offloading via work bee, shuttlecraft, or space dock.

"Toward."

: Turbolift Systems

: Turbolift-1 is located in the center of the Saucer Section and has access from Deck-1 of the Saucer all the way to Deck-12 of the Secondary Hull. Turbolift-2 is also located in the center of the Saucer, parallel with Turbolift-1, and has access from Deck-2 of the Saucer through Deck-12 of the Secondary Hull. Turbolifts-3 and 4 have access from Deck-3 through Deck-6 of the Saucer Section, and are located port and starboard respectively. Turbolifts-5 and 6 are located port and starboard of the center of the secondary hull and traverse from deck-9 to deck-12.

Three instances of "Centre."

: This can occasionally lead to delay times whilst one lift waits for another to clear a shaft, but there has been only a single recorded accident in the life of the Governor project.

Because this section is still in here I would still like to know what the accident was and how the problem which caused it was corrected.

: Crew Support Systems

: Crew Quarters
:
: Enlisted Crewmen and Junior Officers are billeted in pairs, each sharing a small common lounge area and bathing facilities with seperate bunk areas. The lounge is equipped with a dining booth module, and a work station that can double as an entertainment center. The bathroom is equipped with a sink, toilet, and shower. The crewmen each receive a bunk within their own seperate area.

Two instances of "Separate," and one of "Centre."

: Crew Recreational Facilities

: The locker may be stocked with such games as Three Dimensional Chess, Battleships, Kalto, Three Dimensional Scrabble, Monopoly: the Federation Edition and several decks of cards in varying cultural styles. .

Extra "." floating after that sentence.

: This dining area has a seperate galley preparation area and an entertainment screen suitable for displaying broadcasts of many types.

"Separate."

: Galley

: Located near the center of Deck-4 is the ship's Galley.

"Centre."

: Medical Facilities

: The ship's Sickbay is located on Deck-5, next to the primary computer core in the center of the saucer section, and is the most highly protected section in the entire ship.

"Centre."

: Auxiliary Spacecraft Systems

: The launch bay is comprised of a double set of doors as a safe guard against mechanical failure or damage suffered from combat.

Is there a manual override for the shuttlebay doors?

: Technical Specifications

: Warp Systems

: Power Plant: One 900 cochrane M/ARA core feeding two nacelles

In the Warp Propulsion section you state the warp core is 636 Cochranes.

: Impulse Systems
: Full Impulse: 0.25c
: Accellerate: 14 seconds

"Accelerate."

: Decellerate: 32 seconds

"Decelerate."

: Deck Layout

: Deck 11
: * Auxillary Computer Core Level 1

"Auxiliary."

: Conclusion

: The Governor is the new deterrant, a rapid attack fleet of powerful and manoeuvreable ships that can respond more rapidly than any other ship currently in Starfleet service.

"Deterrent," and "manoeuvrable." Also, this final paragraph has not been amended to change the reference to the entire class being deployed as a fleet.
