Server outage
Earlier today, WeBBspace was disabled by STF's web host. Further investigation by Jack Dipper and Larry Garfield determined that our host felt we were drawing too many CPU resources, and so to keep us from overloading the server blocked access to the directory where the code is stored.
Communication with our host's support personnel eventually determined the problem to be a server misconfiguration that was allowing search engine crawlers to hit the site too rapidly and frequently, effectively creating a "Denial of service" attack against the server. The server configuration was amended and our web host restored access to the site.
For the time being, we have configured the site to block all search engines from accessing STF. Although bad for our Google ranking it is necessary to ensure that we do not inadvertently kill the server again resulting in another outage. Once we are confident that the risk of doing so has abated we will allow the search engines to start scanning us again.
Thank you for your patience in this matter.
