Anraelin was born during a different time for her people. In her lifetime she saw two major social changes take part on her homeworld. At the time of her birth, her grandmother was the Sovereign of all worlds controlled by the Maeryn people(Known collectively as the Maeryn Empire-Terran translation). As the Maeryn people recognize no gender bias, the title of her grandmother was not Empress(though Terrans familiar with history will use this term when speaking in Federation Standard), but rather the title more properly translated as "Sovereign of all Maerynians". As such, Anraelin was born a Princess(Again, terranized form, not the Maerynian title which is gender neutral) and expected to serve her people. As such at the age of eleven, she began training as a Knight of Ikaris, the highest order of knighthood in the Empire. The Order is further divided into seventeen separate sects, Anraelin was chosen by the most elite of the sects upon her knighting, the Kaesani. The Kaesani is the elite sect because there are only seventeen champions within the sect at any given time, the only way to be admitted into the sect is to have a knight die around the time you are knighted(since the Kaesani choose a newly knighted knight to replace a deceased champion). There Anraelin learned not just fighting techniques unique to the sect, but the use of weapons that required mental discipline that only a Kaesani champion was capable of learning(as the legend goes). After her knighting, she attended University, receiving the equivalent of a master's degree in history and language(her training as a Princess qualified her to challenge the tests and receive her bachelor's degree at 18)

A year after her knighting at age 18, her grandmother granted her the title of Princess(sometimes used interchangeably with Duchess) of Ilean, a rich farming province on the planet Ilea, in the neighboring system from the homeworld(The Maeryn Empire spanned six systems at the time of Anraelin's birth). This all changed at age 20. A race known as the Raetani made their appearance, and while the Maerynian people were considered more advanced(a common misconception, they were on the whole better developed, but their weapons were evenly matched with the Raetani. It was their engine technology as well as the areas of medicine and science that were greater developed), the Raetani took control of much of the planet by the time Anraelin turned 21. Within a span of six months, Anraelin dealt with the destruction of Ilea and her own land Ilean as well as the death of her grandmother. She was the only one to have witnessed the death of the Empress, and to this day refuses to discuss it, even with her siblings.

For 143 years, the Raetani attemped to wipe the Maerynian people from existence, they came close. By the end of the Occupation, only the home system remained habitable, some of the colony worlds were destroyed outright, others were destroyed inadvertantly by the Raetani attempting to cool down the worlds(They disliked heat). Upon the Empress' death, Anraelin fled Okasyn with a handful of trusted advisors, they made their way north and west, to the mountain city of Otana, finding her elder brother Tokyn in charge of the resistance there. Otana was uniquely designed for fighting the Raetani, for millennia before, a great earthquake buried the original city underground. The empire rebuilt the city over top of the rubble, but caves permitted tourists to view the underground city. The resistance operated underground, technology shielding and maintaining the structure of the underground caverns that contained the ruins. They left the city above empty, leading the Raetani to speak of the "Ghosts of the Mountain City". Anraelin took over the leadership of the resistence there upon Tokyn's death.

At the end of the Occupation, Anraelin was reunited with her younger brother Morran and discovered she had a little sister Rhynia who was born five years into the Occupation. She discovered that her parents had founded a resistence cell in the city of Akkatha, where her father had been named Prince(Or occasionally referred to as Duke, both terran titles are used interchangeably) years before. After helping her people rebuild the planets they had left and once the Maerynian people officially joined the Federation ten years after the occupation/war ended, Anraelin joined Starfleet, becoming the first Maerynian to be admitted to the Academy. She studied command and security/tactical.

Upon graduation, she was commissioned as a security officer, eventually moving on up to tactical officer. Eventually she was accepted and passed Advanced Tactical Training at the academy and upon completion, she was promoted to full Commander and assigned as first officer to the USS Firestorm. She would eventually receive the Firestorm as her first command. She also commanded the USS Kananaskis prior to receiving command of the USS Constellation.
