Tahlia Qamar was born on the El-Aurian homeworld in the earth year 1951, she had many interests in the early years of her life, which included her study and love of art and literature. Not a lot is known about Tahlia's life on her homeworld, as she is quite reserved unless pressed or in the event that part of her experience is valuble to someone. Like many El-Aurians, she also doesn't like to talk about her homeworld that much, due to the nature of it's downfall and destruction.

Tahlia, was 314 years of age when the Borg came and assimilated her people, and although she was a adult, she had stuck closely to her large family and experienced little other than her own people and planet. Because of this she was somewhat naive and unaware of life in the galaxy but had to adapt quickly as her and the only other surviving member of her family, her father Jafaru, lived like nomads moving from place to place. Because of the circumstances in which she found herself, even under the so called 'protection' of her father, she had to learn fast and pay attention, but she didn't find this too difficult as she is a member of a species known for it's listening and observational skills.

Tahlia and her father Jafaru barely escaped from the Borg by hiding the cargo ship he appropriated in a nearby nebula. They travelled to the nearest inhabited colony, and both tried to settle down, but found that because of the loss of their homeworld they couldn't fit in. The trama of the Borg attack had such a profound effect on her Father, that he became introverted and selfish, thinking only of himself. This caused strain their father-daughter relationship and was the main reason why they started wondering from place to place. Tahlia desperatley wanted to find a new home, but her father was unable to banish the memories of their old one.

The last straw came when Jafaru Qamar, heading for a new colony with his daughter, spotted a Borg scout ship on the outskirts of the system. Instead of sending out a warning to the planet, he turned the ship around and headed for safety, turning a blind eye to the destruction and assimlation that was sure to follow. Tahlia then decided it was time the two parted ways and she made her way to Betazed and lived peacefully for the next 10 years until the planet was temporarilly occupied by the Dominion during the war.

Watching all the chaos that followed not only brought back memories of her homeworlds destruction, but also of her fathers selfish attitude and neglect in the case of the Hadassah colony. She decided she wasn't going to follow his example, and she was moved with a strong desire to help people. With this in mind she decided to take action, and impressed by the Federations pusuit of a peaceful end to the conflict, she decided to join starfleet.

When in Starfleet, she found she lacked interest in the sciencesr, didn't have the brawn of a security officer, but had excelled in psychological studies. So she decided to pursue a career as a Counselor.

Her first post was aboard a starbase as a assistant CNS, before being promoted to full counselor aboard the USS Everest.
