Tara is the oldest child of Akemi and Christopher. Tara was born on Ganjitsu (Japanese New Year) at 12:00 am to be exact. Tara was considered to be a charmed child because of this. While not overly showered with attention Tara wanted for nothing.

Akemi was born in Okinawa Japan and moved to San Diego, CA as a child. After graduating, Akemi joined the navy and returned to Okinawa where she met and eventually married Christopher and they settled in Okinawa for their duty stations and to raise their kids.

Tara grew up at Camp Lester. She attended local schools in the nearby community. Learning to speak both Japanese and English, she participated in many cultural activities including Kabuki dancing and Ryukyu Kobojutsu (Okinawan Kobudo) in which she obtained a 5th degree black belt (Godon). Tara continues to practice both disciplines as a means of staying in shape.

With both parents being in the military, Tara grew up used to strict discipline and rules. After graduating, Tara decided to join Star Fleet and made science her primary focus of study. Upon graduation from the Academy, Tara was assigned to the USS Columbus.
