Jason Rice is of slim build, handsome, with an outgoing personality. Rice smiles alot, but knows when to wear the proper bearing. Rice was born in San Francisco but lived much of his life in Tokyo where his mother worked for the Japan branch of TechnoSystems, Inc., a computer software development corporation. She is now CEO. Rice' father, Robert Rice, a financial analyst for TechnoSystems, Inc., died when he was 7.

Rice has one sister, Lt. Roberta Rice-Hughes, a Star Fleet Liason Officer currently serving at SFC Headquarters. She is married to Lt. Victor Hughes, of Star Fleets' Advocate General's Office. They have a five-year-old son named Sam Rutherford Hughes.

Rice developed an interest in engineering while working summers for his mother. Rice' focus is on computer systems, shields and forcefields where he excels. Rice has an above-average grasp of warp technology and theory, though he must improve his practical applications.
