: : : : Whatever you guys have been doing previously has worked just fine for me. Google catches any spam that comes through. I've seen maybe one or two items of spam come through my EDir forward into my inbox over the past year. I couldn't even tell you my monthly spam totals because I don't look at that link on my Gmail. Spam just doesn't exist for me. <G>

: : : Google is very good at catching spam messages, as it uses its own spam filter. However, out of the 800 spam messages I had, not one of them had been marked as 'JUNK' by the filters on the server. That's fine for you and me who use google, but there are those out their that use ISPs or other mail providers. I know Andy has been saying that he has received a lot of spam.
: : :
: : : What I am saying is that the servers filters were doing nothing and Google was doing all the hard work.

: : I too use Google ... the Spam filter there works for me. I delete them regularly from the Spam folder. At the moment I've got 112 emails sitting in my spam folder. These are from December 29 to the present day (10th of January for me). At that rate, by the end of January, I suppose I'll have somewhere in the order of 330 odd spam ones in there. I'm on the AFComm-6 and AMAC forwards, possibly Fleet6 and Marketing as well, if those exist.
: :
: : I'll hold off on deleting the spam emails until end of month and let you know how many there are then. None of the emails in my spam folder have *JUNK* or *SPAM* or anything else appended to their titles.

: For those of us who don't use Google (all of my email for every address I have is routed to my ISP webmail and downloaded to Outlook), we're drowning in it! Well.. Having said that, I was drowning in it :P
:
: Thanks to Jack pulling the forwards off the whitelist, I've gone from getting more than 230 spam mails a day (most from various masked Viagra addresses) to only getting six today. I can live with six :P

This is actually one of the reasons (and probably the main one) that I changed my STF e-mail to a new, STF-themed Google account that I'd purpose-created.

I had been using Yahoo Mail, whose spam filter leaves much to be desired, and I'd have fifteen or twenty slip through into the Inbox per day. I'm averaging about 235 a month since switching to the Gmail address, which is from at various times being on 2aidir, aidir, idir, fcomm-3, and veep (as well as the secondary ones that point to these, such as cabinet, upload, fleet-3, idept, etc.)

I haven't looked into pre-settings-tweaks and post-tweaks, but if Andy's down from 230 a day to 180 a month, I'd say we've already made serious headway.
