: Also, while I'll agree with you that it's okay to use contractions, since we don't want to necessarily do complete formal writing here, I will agree with Terry on the use of acronyms. Though this course is targeted at members who have been here for six months or more (GM minimum, and XO approximate), we should still spell out the acronym the first time it is mentioned with it in parenthesis afterward, and then capitalize the acronym from thereon out... above: Message of the Day (MOTD) and always MOTD and HTML. HTML is common language so you don't need to spell that one out first.
:
I'd forgotten to add that I would make those changes to the acronyms(I supposed I got wrapped up in stating that I didn't want us to start writing formal documents), so yes, I will be changing those. :)
: :
: Maybe a note here that this is why it's always a good idea to keep your subscribers list edited properly?
:
I'll add it into the subscriber section of the course when I discuss the removal of subscribers and why a CO should use that option to keep the subscribers of a ship limited to those members of the crew and the fleet command staff.
: :
: : The same is true for the "remove" option, this permits you to remove subscribers, for instance if you have a member who is no longer a member of your ship, you have the option of removing them, it's not necessary, but some COs may wish to clean up their subscriber lists on occasion.
: :
: I guess this is a culture type discussion, but it strikes me that we should probably get into the habit (and thus teach the habit), of keeping our subscriber lists as "clean" as possible. I can't see any reason not to, but no real reason to "force" people to do it. So maybe we should just call it good etiquette and try and teach people to do it? Is there any reason not to?
:
I can't think of one off hand. I'll remove that paragraph and replace it with a better one explaining that the only people outside of actual ship members who may need to post on the ship would be the FComm or the AFComm.
: :
: : Three dialogue boxes are listed in this tab:
: :
: : Slogan: A brief description for the group details block and group directory. ie: "The USS Columbia is a Discovery Class Vessel that has been training cadets since 2003."
: :
: I don't think normal CO/XO/GM admins get this option. Second, a question... where does the slogan come out on the MOTD? I can't seem to find any slogans anywhere.
:
<snipped>
I'm not sure where the slogan comes from or how it comes out on the MOTD, but I have a slogan on the Columbia and on the Constellation and I know Chris has the option on the Polaris. Anyone else have an idea on what the heck it's for? :)
: :
: Instead of providing a brief explanation of CSS here, maybe we should just say something like "advanced users only" or "use only if you know how to code CSS". There should be a note under MOTD as well, not just that it uses HTML, but that proper HTML coding is required, and if you have any questions on how to modify your MOTD, you should contact the IDept for support.
:
: : With the edit tab, you can preview any minor changes to the motd by clicking "preview" before you click "submit"(Which makes your changes permanent). However if you are completely changing the look of the motd, preview will not work.
: :
: Well, it will work, unless you're changing the CSS as well I believe. That distinction should probably be made, but I'm not 100% sure on when exactly the "preview" breaks, and I'm not willing to test theories out on the Genesis (even though our MOTD needs changing <G> ).
I'm not sure on this one either. Anyone know for certain? Like Jen, I don't want to butcher the Constellation to test out theories. :)
<snippies>
I'll make the changes to the editing tonight sometime and re-post the course with the changes.
Still within the same vein, how many pictures/figures should we have with the course and what screen-shots should we include(Now that I've finally figured out how to do them with my macbook LOL)
-Obviously I think we need to show the three tabs.
-One of the admin menu under the admin tab.
-One of the edit tab.
-Character edit screen perhaps?
-Subscriber list too?
I don't think we need to show the e-mail tab since we're educating people through this course to sort of just forget it's there.
