: : : Caileigh's eyes were burning and she was tired. Her mind drifted to her quarters and her now hopefully sleeping daughter. She waited for the EMH to explain what he had found and wondered how they were going to save the patients and the crew if it came down to that.

"These are samples from each patient as well as data from random samples from the planet provided to us from the records. Notice anything?" He didn't wait before carrying on. "The virus is identical. Absolutely identical. Viruses evolve naturally, even airborne ones, over time, hours or weeks they evolve, even if only by a fractional amount. For example, Mr X and Mr Y might be in the room and get exposed to a virus. They might get the same sickness and so forth, but if you took samples the virus would have modified very slightly between the hosts, depending on environmental factors, physiology and so on. In every patient to date this virus you have found is identical and I mean identical. It never varies, it never changes, it is....relentless."
