: : : : : Having recently stated rewatching JAG I am in love with the idea and anytime you add something new to the club weather you like the idea or not it always brings in new members. It has my vote.
:
: : : : I also think this is a great idea. We don't have anything like this in the club. Like Tom said, we would have a way to take it to court. This could be also used as an opportunity for a way for different ships to interact (providing we can find a way around coding of course). Hmm, thanks to Harley, I need a JAG now, come to think of it. I think you set me up! Count me in
:
: : : I think the oppourtunity for rping in this venue would be very challenging and I support that it be a second character only area. I believe there should be a time constraint on it as well. i.e. Must be an active member for minimum of 120 days (or something like that). I also have a few questions.
: : :
: : : Would this ship travel to places where a 'courtroom' was needed?
: :
: : I've read the charter and it says that there is already a courtroom instead of a conference room.
: :
: : : Would there be several voices that rotate on the panels of 'judges' as in real military courts or just the command staff?
: :
: : I'm assuming here that it would be just like any other position on a ship, like a COS. If it is then it would be permanent until someone resigns the position.
: :
: : : Would the cases be brought by the rpgers in a self-sim atmosphere or would the GM have to be handling and inventing all cases?
: :
: : Well the ship also doubles up as a diplomacy vessel so i'm guessing that a GM would run the sims although i'm not so sure.
: :
: : : I believe I might enjoy this deeper level role play opportunity. However I do not think I would want to continue with it for years. So the turnover might be high on the rosters.
:
: : Hope that helps until someone who knows more can add in extra information :P
:
: Can I say that first of all I like the idea, and I would be willing to join.
:
: I do however have one query. Do you plan on creating a reference manual (or a similar type document) that would give us all some idea of what the law is? - Afterall we come from all accross the gobe and live in places with different laws and regulations apply, so we would need to establish the basics.

I too like the idea...Law & Order IN SPACE!!!!

Not to answer for Harley, Jimmy, but I think in most of the basic cases (homicide, burglary, sex crimes) the common law is pretty similar across most jurisdictions. Barring that, there's always the Uniform Code of Military Justice, which is available online in a few places (and would make the most sense to use, being as how Starfleet is the Federation Military).

In cases (or sims, I suppose) that involve things like treaty disputes, I suppose the GM could write up a pretend treaty for each side to interpret.

And if all else fails, ST being American in origin, and Californian in production, we can all use California's Penal Code to determine what the law is :D

...just kidding, that would be a HORRIBLE idea.
