Personal History:

The one word that sums up Asani Rhynia is "fighter". Born five years into a brutal 143 year occupation of her home system by a race known as the Raetani, Rhynia was raised in a world where you had to fight or be killed. The Raetani were a race of nomads who sought to completely wipe out the Maerynian people and harvest the natural resources from their territory and move on.

By age twelve, Rhynia was already fighting actively in the resistence cell that her mother commanded after her father's death the year before. Upon Meryni's death, the cell fragmented and Rhynia and her older brother Morran were seperated, Rhynia taking command of the fragment of the cell that remained in the desert city of Akkatha.

By the year 2340, Rhynia was forced to trade technology with the Okan cell in exchange for medical supplies and food for her own people. The technology she was forced to trade was a deployment system for biological agents(not necessarily for biological weapons, but could have been used to quickly disperse medicine to a striken population!) that the Okan cell used to deploy a biological agent they developed to specifically kill the Raetani. To this day, Rhynia regrets the transaction but does not see how she could have gotten around it, considering her people were starving and dying and she as their leader needed to put a stop to it.

2345 saw the deaths of the last Raetani and the official end of the occupation. It took ten years of hard work, but the three remaining worlds inhabited by Maerynians were rebuilt and they joined the Federation officially in the year 2355.

Professional History:

Rhynia studied intelligence at the academy as well as command. In addition she passed the requirements to receive a security and tactical degree as Starfleet discovered there was little else they could teach her in those fields, in fact it was more likely she could teach some of the most brilliant tactical minds in the fleet a few things.

Upon graduation, she was assigned as a junior intelligence analyst at Starfleet Intelligence Headquarters on Earth. After two years she received her promotion to lieutenant, junior grade and was reassigned to Forward Deployment Operations, the exact details of this assignment are classified.

Three years later she was promoted to full grade lieutenant and reassigned to the USS Firehawke as Chief Intelligence Officer. Three years after that she was promoted again to lieutenant commander and reassigned to the USS Osaka. After a few years of switching ships and moving in and out of classified missions, Rhynia was reassigned to the USS Polaris as second officer and chief of intelligence. Shortly thereafter she was promoted to full Commander and reassigned as the Polaris' first officer.

Medical History:

The bulk of Rhynia's injury specific details are classified. Like most Maerynians, she is extremely agile, she is stronger than humans of her weight and height class as well. Like most of her race, she is also telepathic, but due to socially constructed behavior on telepathy, she finds the idea of reading someone's mind morally repugnant, but will do so when she sees no other viable option. Maerynian telepathy is best described as holding the ability to "walk into someone else's head". Rhynia also has telekinetic abilities, but limited in scope to objects less than one quarter of her weight, anything heavier could cause damage to her brain.
