Soon after the Romulan in the quarantine on the Romulan vessel was transported across to the Athena, the call came in from Burnett asking for communications silence for 2 minutes while they attempted to deactivate the cannister from the quantum singularity. Almost certainly they would have been as nervous and anxious as the people were in the engineering section of the Romulan vessel as they hoped that they didn't see the vessel explode. The two minutes passed and the officer who was scanning the ship said, "it's still there, Fleet Captain Wolfe, and the two minutes are up, should I hail them?"

The officer at tactical spoke up at that point, "Captain, long range sensors are picking up a Romulan vessel, decloaking and moving in closer to us. They should be within hailing range within minutes, Sir. If we put up shields we'll be safe, but we'll be unable to transport the crew aboard, Sir. If we leave the shields down, and the Romulans attack ... it won't be pretty. Their weapons currently are unpowered."
