Lua Tal’eran is an intelligence officer and member of the Tal Shiar, the secret Romulan intelligence agency. Her entire family are involved with the Tal Shiar; Lua’s father, Commander Khaiel Tal’eran, is a military strategist who played a key role in many of the battles of the Dominion War, most notably the Battle of the Omarion Nebula, where his own wife was lost; and the Battle of Cardassia where he sent both of his children in to fight.

Lua’s mother, Subommander Sharel Tal’eran, commanded the warbird D’Juno during the Battle of the Omarion Nebula. When her ship was ambushed by the Jem’Hadar, she, along with the rest of her crew, committed mass suicide rather than be taken prisoner and interred at Camp 371.

Lua and her brother both played key roles in the Battle of Cardassia. Her brother was a strategist like his father, who fought in the battle aboard the warbird Imporcitor, and Lua was an intelligence operative who gathered much valuable intel on the Breen and their exotic weapons.

Since the war ended, Lua has continued to operate under the Tal Shiar, most recently investigating the Romulan Freedom Front for Admiral Gel’Dels. Her brother, who lost many comrades in the war and struggled to maintain his control in the battles, had a period of personal rebellion upon returning home, which had to be carefully hidden by both Lua and her father to prevent the rest of the Tal Shiar finding out. About a year ago he declared that he was going on a pilgrimage to Gal Gath'thong and they have not heard from him since.
