: : : : : : Alex took a moment to glance around at the other party goers. A Caitian and the loudly dressed individual talked nearby and another individual had staked a claim near the beverage table. The CoS blinked in amusement. Was that caitian's tail swaying to the music?

: : : : : : Martell brought his attention back to Miller, for fear he may be accused of ogling at something else entirely. " So this little activity was your idea?" he asked, trying to make conversation.

: : : Sharon grinned. "Yes, it was," she admitted. "I figured we could all do with some fun after the events of the last few months, and it seemed as good a way as any for me to meet all of our new crewmembers."

: Alex smiled at that. Once, he'd been the same way. A young cadet newly graduated and eager to face the galaxy with the rest of his classmates. Now, a bit more seasoned, Alex only seen the faces as they passed through his academy classes and the occasional jaunt into space like this one was supposed to be.

: : : She emptied her own champagne glass and then, with a rather guilty-looking expression, helped herself to another glass.

: : : "I'm usually hidden away with the warp core," she laughed, "and don't get many opportunities to meet the rest of the crew unless it's an event like this."

: " Most cadet's try to avoid me." Alex replied taking another sip of his bubbly. " They tend to hunker down when security officer's are about." he added with a smile.

: : : Sharon had found herself relying greatly on the security teams during the recent events, not that she wanted to worry the new CoS by telling him this just yet, but still, she welcomed this opportunity to get to know him a little better.

: : : "So," she continued, "what made you decide to come back up into the stars then?"

: Alex looked down and grinned. This CE sounded something like a counselor and Alex briefly wondered if he'd sounded that same way when he'd graduated and got his first posting as the CoS of the Challenger some years ago.

: " It had been some time since I stepped outside the academy grounds for a training cruise." he said. " I was going stir crazy doing class work with cadet's day in and day out. I needed a break." He drained his own glass before continuing, followed by the unmistakable look of surprise. " Whoa, " He let out as the effect's of the champagne hit him. " Pretty good stuff." he complimented.

: " An opening became available on Lt ( the last CoS)'s security staff and I took it. When he got transfered with the other's, I was the next available officer..... even though I was mainly an observer for most of this voyage."

: " How about you?" he asked. " Do you enjoy meeting new people and having new experiences?" he said with a wave of his glass taking in the room and it's occupants.

: : : : : : : Sharon recognised her new Cadet immediately from the photo on his file. She had been meaning to catch up with him for a few days now, but had simply been so busy with the aftermath of the away mission. Taking over a glass of champagne for him she held out her hand to greet him.

: : : : : : : "Cadet Bataan, it's good to finally meet you at last," she said, slightly embarrassed that the first time Bataan would be getting a look at his new DH would be when she was at a party and slightly tipsy. "I'm Sharon Miller, Chief Engineer. I'm sorry I haven't had chance to welcome you to the ship before now, but I hope you've settled in okay?"

: : : : : Enil saw a well looking lady comming his way and straigtened up and after she introduced herself to him he snapped to attention and saluted. "It´s a pleasure to meet you at last ma´am. and there is nothing to be sorry about, I am already very happy as it is with all the challenges and oppurtunities starfleet has blessed me with." He took her hand she offered him and hesitantly accepted the champaign. "I will put forth more effort to blend in if that is required."

: : : : Terrik strode into the room, he hadn't planned on putting in an appearance but had then decided he should make more of an effort to interact with the crew. Spotting Lt. Miller conversing with some felow cadets he made a move to join them.

: : : Sharon grinned as she saw Terrik enter the room. She hadn't had many opportunities to talk with him lately, and she missed the deep conversations they had once enjoyed between them. She waved him over to join her and Bataan.

: : : Then, turning back to Bataan, she attempted to relax him a little. "At ease, Cadet," she laughed. "We're not on duty now, there's no need for you to stand on ceremony on my account. I'm actually glad for a chance to get to know you in a less formal setting."

: : : Sharon relaxed her own posture a little, hoping the Cadet would mirror the gesture. Then she attempted to recall some of the details from his file that she may be able to build on a conversation with.

: : : "So," she finally continued, "I believe you're from Halcyon Prime. We don't get many engineers from those parts. What made you want to tinker with starships then?"

: : As she waved another person over and bid him to relax, he did so. As she asked him about his backgrounds, he felt a little nervousness tide up. " Oh well, ma´am... to some people in the Federation I learned, that they deem Halcyon Prime a paradise. it´s mostly a pastoral world and people are blessed with the fruits of agriculture. However I guess, you wouldn´t like it there. People want to release themselves from the crutches of technology. My father thinks, technology makes us weak and lazy and we stop to better ourselves." He took a sip of the champaign an continued :" So most of the people strife for spirtual englightment due to hard work on the fields and manual labour and mental and physical perfection in martial arts of any kind of form. Some Orion pirates once in a while still make the mistake to raid us and learn that it is a bad idea". He looked apologeticaly and took a strong sip :" Well, we have basic powerlines and we take our energy from the hydroelectric dams, that´s where I actuall showed my interest. My grandfather, used to sneek basic federation tools and old tricorders into my posessions when working for him, when he left for the spaceport in Thebana to sell our produce. The only place on Halcyon Prime that comes up with basic standart technology. So you see, there is not much you would be happy with, ma´am if you would live there. Technology is not appreciated. I studied basic engineering and my father cast me out of my family for doing so. My grandfather had me stowaway on an old freighter that couldn´t make more then warp five to get me to earth. on my way to earth I had to earn my trip in the engineroom for the following months. "

Terrik nodded to Lt. Miller and took a place at her side to listen to the young man.

"There are many such places on Vulcan which reject technology in much the same way, I have know others in similar situations. I do not believe it is beneficial to constrain a populous in such a way, there will always be rejection of a rejection."
