Born May 12, 2356, Jas Neela is the only child of Jas Inara and Jas Nomis. Born near the end of the Cardassian occupation of Bajor, Jas Neela lived in relative comfort in Jalanda City. Due to her father’s cooperation with the Cardassians, the effects of the occupation had little effect on the family until the last year of the occupation.

Jas Inara is a trained musician and played the klavion. She performed at the Jalanda Forum on a regular basis. Jas Inara taught Jas Neela to play klavion, she wanted her daughter to have an appreciation for the arts, both musical and visual. Jas Neela did not become as accomplished as Jas Inara, however she did like to play as often as she could.

In terms of music, Jas Neela also learned to play the lute and percussion instruments. Neela also found an interesting in painting and sculpture. Even as a young child, Neela would spend her free time practicing and playing sports. Neela started playing spring ball when she was seven.

Jas Nomis is a physician and is in private practice in Jalanda City. He also practices medicine and teaches at the Ilvian Medical Complex in Ilvia. He would take Jas Neela with him when he was on duty at the Medical Complex. Nomis encouraged his daughter to read medical texts and expand her mind on different levels. He challenged Neela and gave her tests to see if she remembered what she had read. It was during these trips that Neela found an interest in medicine and decided to become a doctor.

Jas Neela’s childhood was overshadowed by the Occupation. Neela attended school in Jalanda City and did well. She had multiple friends and they were often out playing spring ball or Prayko. She had fun and did well. Her world was turned upside down when she was 12. On her way home from classes, a Cardassian officer by the name of Tarak, stopped her and took her off. Six months later, Jas Neela became a mother at the age of 13. The day after the baby girl was born, Tarak and several Cardassian officers showed up at the family home and took the baby. Neela has no idea what happened to her daughter and has been looking for her since then.

After the baby, Neela continued her education and attended medical school at the Medical Complex before joining Star Fleet and going to the Academy. She was assigned to the USS Europa shortly after graduation from the Academy.
