Physical Description:

Ylana has long blond hair and the black eyes typical of Betazoids. On her forehead is a leaf shaped forehead ridge characteristic of her Napean heritage. She is very tall and has a lean and rather willowy figure. However Ylara is very strong from continual physical training.

Background:

Born on an island in the Hedayan Archipelago to a Betazoid mother and a Napean father (in 2357), Ylana grew up with an innate interest in the world around her. She was born with both telepathic and empathic abilites due to Nikala being a formidable telepath and Grar being an extremely adept empath. However, her empathy was the dominant ability for most of her childhood. The Eviros family lived a simple, peaceful life on the islands of the archipelago, where Nikala was a ceramics artisan and Grar was a biologist.

Both Ylana and her elder sister, Kema, were pursuing their studies at the University of Betazed, in the capital city of Rixx (Kema in social anthropology and Ylana, biology), when Cardassian and Jem’Hadar forces attacked Betazed and successfully occupied the planet. During the occupation, a great many Betazoids were captured as slave labour in the construction of the Cardassian station Sentok Nor, including Y’lana and Kema. While there, a Cardassian scientist by the name of Crell Moset, conducted experiments trying to create telepathic Jem’Hadar. Kema became ill after some neural modifications were made by Moset. Rather than allow them to continue using Kema as a subject, Ylana defended her sister and offered herself instead, in return for leaving Kema alone, to which Moset agreed. The combination of Ylana’s parentage provided Moset a unique test case.

Meanwhile, Ylana’s parent’s joined the Resistance and fought in the battle to drive out the Jem’Hadar where Nikala was killed.

After Betazed and the station were liberated, the two sisters spent some time in the hospital recovering. Ylana was discovered to have enhanced abilities. Both her telepathy and empathy are significantly stronger and she has shown some psychokinetic abilites but they are limited without further mental training. Kema suffered some permanent brain damage and required some assistance in day to day life. Grar insisted Ylana continue with her plans to join Starfleet and gave up his research to help Kema. The elder sister passed away after a long period of deterioration. Her family scattered her ashes at the Valley of Song on Betazed.

Soon after joining the Dresden, Ylana found herself in a relationship with the current CO, Michael Halloway. After dealing with Ylana's childhood betrothal to Morin Tal (which she decided not to complete), she found out that she was pregnant. She miscarried on Betazed after Kema died and when she returned to the Dresden, fell ill from an infection only to find out that there was a second child that she was miscarrying as well. The couple weathered the painful storm, though it briefly caused a rift between them because of Ylana's fears and overwhelming grief. Finding their balance again, they were married in secret, and for the time being it is not known to the crew.

Medical and Psychological History:

Both during childhood and her time in Starfleet, Ylana has been relatively healthy suffering only minor injuries and illnesses (colds, flus, cuts and bruises) inherent of an adventurous person. In addition to the enhancement of her psionic abilities, Ylana has some brain tissue scarring, but there haven’t been any significant side-effects to date.

Psychologically, Ylana is fairly well adjusted, all things considered. She has gone through considerable trauma counselling and mental training in order to deal with the effects of Moset’s experiments on her. Ylana has not yet discovered the limits of her abilities and continues to hone them to keep them in control.
