Romulan Engineering Section on USS Athena

: : : : : : =^=Engineering this is the bridge we have a containment failure in progress. Do you read the same?=^= As he spoke he entered a translation matrix into the engineering controls, something that he never considered using on the bridge. Ironically, the matrix was easy to enter but certain words didn't have a direct translation and continue to flash in their native Romulan.

: : : : : =/\= Aye, the singularity is destabilizing again. =/\=
: : : : :
: : : : : Burnett taped on the console, carefully navigating the Romulan systems without knowing much of what he was looking at when the console flashed black. Burnett looked around momentarily as some of the other engineering staff seemed to be doing the same as he. Their bewilderment was short lived as the consoles came back up in mostly English.

: : : : : : =^=I've converted the text on some of the key consoles.=^= The program would only effect the systems that had some remote access from the bridge. Secondary systems were as indecipherable as before.

: : : : :
: : : : : With most of the data properly displayed in a not-so-useless format, determining the cause of the imminent failure was fairly straightforward. Whether it had been caused by the sabotague or in their attempts to repair the warbird, other components were failing.
: : : : :
: : : : : "The singularity must remain suspended and spinning for the matter injection to remain stable and maintain the plasma routing to the warp and power systems. Two of the three mid-line dampeners which maintains this stability are failing."
: : : : :
: : : : : Burnett frantically tapped on the console, realizing how much time it had already taken them.
: : : : :
: : : : : "There are replacement dampeners located in a storage trunk over ..." he pointed past the singularity, "there! Someone grab a few of them."
: : : : :
: : : : : Biting at his lip slightly, he continued to babble on - apparently to himself.
: : : : :
: : : : : "Where is that manual stabilization routine....I saw it just a moment ago," he slammed his hands on the edges of the console. "Gah! It was just here...We can't swap out the dampeners without that routine."

: : : : Rice moved over to the storage locker and grabbed a few dampeners. "Here chief."
: : : :
: : : : Ensign Jason Rice, Engineer
: : :
: : : The first dampener failed completely, throwing the ship into a lazy spin as the port nacelle failed, the automatic stabiliser system unable to keep up with the power being generated by the starboard nacelle.

: : Tresha held on tight with one hand and continued to work on the other. "Give me one of those stablizers!" she called over to Rice.
: :
: : Lt. Jg. Rai
: : Tinkerer
:
: Rice, who was clutching the dampeners was unable to hold on and was launched off his feet and slid into a bulkhead, head first.
:
: "Ouch!" he cursed as he attempted to straighten himself. Blood began flowing down his forehead.
:
: Rather than attempting to stand, Rice crawled over to Lt. Rai and handed her the stablizers. She would see that Rice' eyes were beginning to glaze over and his head was swooning.

Burnett feel to one side, crashing into the hard floor paneling as the ship lurched from having dropped out of warp and careening off on one nacelle. It took a moment before he could right himself and stand, and another to get back to his console. Tapping his chest, his voice could barely be heard above the crack of electricity as the excess plasma overloaded the secondary systems.

"Rai, try to get that damper replaced. I'm going to stem off the plasma flow, but if I stop the reaction entirely, I'm not sure we'll get it back up again."

Burnett redirected the excess plasma as best he could in an attempt to minimize damage to primary systems and propulsion. Though there was little he could access, he attempted accessing the singularity controls to manually stabilize it, if only temporarily.
