RFC - Left Hand Blocks on Internet Department
: : : I actually like the layout as it is currently. I don't know how often a latest news box for each fleet will get updated, but I'm not an FComm, either. General news around the club could go into the main news box.
: :
: : Yes, and general news does go in the main news box. However, we're seeing FComms wanting to build more of a community spirit within each Fleet, and this seems a good way of passing around the latest news within a Fleet (such as vacancies, missions starting, promotions, awards, etc). The main news box will still stay (either above or below the Fleet box).
: :
: : The added advantage is that people can add the news boxes to their RSS readers, so have the information pushed to them, rather than them reading an MOTD every time they log in (let's face it, how often do people read MOTDs these days?).
: :
: : Talking of RSS feeds, I'll draw up some instructions on how to set them up, etc (although it is fairly easy) and how they can be used.

: Speaking as a former FComm-1, I certainly would've utilised a fleet news function. Part of my "agenda" as FComm was to develop more a community spirt as Jack coined it within th eFleet. Certainly I was in the habit of updating the Fleet MOTD with this information and staying in contact with the COs and XOs with updates from the fleet.
:
: I think the Fleet news idea is a good idea.. To read fleet news items and maybe one day I'll end up posting them too :P

Perhaps with the instruction set you could link to a couple of good readers and the Google reader? I use the SeaMonkey reader inside their email software, and I'm starting to like the Google one now to check up on key areas at while at work.
I just thought most Fleet news would end up on the MOTD's, which even now don't get updated all that often in some places. A news box for each fleet is a nice idea, but would probably end up the same way.
