: : : : : : : NE Necessity was monitoring the communications frequency of the away team when a grunt and a thud came from the center of the bridge. Everyone seemed to be in shock and no one moved so NE Necessity swiveled his chair around and looked for the source of the noise.

: : : : : : : Captain Q'Tal lay twitching on the floor. His limbs were spazzing out and his head banged into the bottom of his chair.

: : : : : : : "Someone do something!" Necessity yelled. Still no one moved. Necessity jumped from his seat. Now was his chance to be like Jean-Luc Picard, like Kathryn Janeway, like Ben Sisko. Here was his chance to be a hero. It took him two steps to reach the Captain's side and he dropped to the floor.

: : : : : : : Meanwhile, in Sickbay, Lily was trying to keep an eye on what was going on planetside while she caught up on the new crew medical files. When NE Necessity's panicked comm call came in, Lily moved with the speed, calmness and practice of her years in medical training. She grabbed her medkit and yelled for Sky.

: : : : : : : "Sky!" She got his name out before she realized that Sky was on the planet. "I mean, Zhane!" The young, blonde doctor came out of the supply room. "Let's go. Med emergency on the bridge."

She ran her tricorder over his body but, at first glance, she knew that he would need more help. =/\=Evans to Transporter Room, site to site transport for myself, the Captain and Lt. Zhane to Sickbay from the Bridge, now!=/\= Seconds later, they were surrounded by bluish light.

: : : : : "I think he has Yamphut. I've seen one case of it before, on Risa, and all of his symptoms are checking out. Here, look at the scan." Zhane chucked his tricorder at Lily and she caught it deftly.

: : : : : The scan showed that the Captain's heart was pulsing irregularly and that his lungs were pumping abnormally. His esophagus seemed constricted and his white blood cell count was astronomical. And there was something wrong with his brain. "And this affects Vulcans?" she asked.

: : : : : "Yeah. I'm not sure to what degree but it usually ends up in a coma state. I can synthesize medicine..." his voice trailed off.

: : : : : "I've never done the procedure before. To get rid of the Yamphut, you have to stop the brain before it swells too much. There's a gland that Risans have, at least the one Risan I saw the operation performed on had it, called the Tria gland. You have to remove it. The biobed scans show a gland that is pulsing in his brain, I assume it is the Vulcan version. I have to remove it. I think I can do it." Zhane looked pale.

: : : : : Lily made the decision. "Nurse Charlie, Nurse Fortaleza, get over here. Get Captain Q'Tal to surgery. Zhane, you can do it. I have to take care of one thing and I'll be in there to help you."

Lily tapped her combadge again. =^=Dr. Evans to Lieutenant O'Neill,=^= she thought she remembered O'Neill being on the bridge. =^=Lieutenant, the XO has put me temporarily in charge while she is on the planet and the Captain is incapacitated. You have control of the bridge, do you copy? Keep an eye on the away team and let me know if anything changes. I'll be in Sickbay if you need me. Acknowledge.=^=
