: : : : : : : : Faith laughed as she apologised to the other dancers and found her footing. "Don't worry, Jorran!" She said, putting her arms around his neck. "I'm OK." She gently rested her head on his shoulder, and began to sway softly in time to the music.

: : : : : : : Jorran was throughly embarrassed, but was just happy that she wasn't hurt or mad at him. As the two swayed, Jorran whispered, "I love you Faith."

: : : : : : Her eyes closed, and a soft, contented smile curled the corners of her mouth. "I love you, too." She whispered back.

: : : : : As the music slowed, Jorran softly grabbed Faith's hand and puller her gently over towards their candle lit table. "I'm sorry if I seem mushy tonight, I just wanted to be with you; and to show how much I care about you, this is the best way I knew how. I know this has had a rocky start, but I love you Faith, and I am so glad I have you." Jorran blushed a deep red before closing his mouth, feeling extraordinarily embarrassed after saying that, he quickly turned away and took a large swig of spring wine before refilling his glass.

: : : : Faith flushed just as deeply as her boyfriend. "I'm glad we stuck to it." She replied simply. She couldn't wait for the crews next shore leave. Maybe they could get away somewhere together.

: : : Jorran was blushing a deeper red then he had ever blushed before. Partly because of the alcohol but mostly because of his emotions right now. He had thought about this for a long time and it was going to be now or never right? "Fai.. Faith I want to..." Stopping, Jorran reached in his pocket and pulled out a small, black box and opened it under the table. He pushed his glass and plate aside with one arm and said while raising the box to present it "Faith, will you marry me?"

: : Faith gasped, and raised her hand to her face, covering her mouth. The ring was beautiful, and Jorran was all she had ever wanted in a man. Her answer stuck in her throat, as tears began to streak down her cheeks.
: :
: : She reached out and closed the box, taking his hand in hers as she did it, shaking her head. "I want to marry you... One day." She replied. Her words hurting her as much as she knew they would hurt him. She hated herself for doing this, but she was so afraid. "But, right now, it's too soon. I'm sorry."

: Jorran's heart sank deeper then Earth's Mariana Trench. He was crushed deeper then he had ever felt. No words escaped his lips as he emotionally shut down. He let the box slip through his fingers and hit the table with a sickening thud. He withdrew his hands silently and stood to leave. He whispered the command to show the exit and headed to his quarters. Slinking into a chair, Jorran pulled out a hidden bottle of spring wine and drank himself unconscious.

The tears that trickled down Faith's cheeks began to pour. What had she done? The one person she had ever loved, who had loved her back, had just disappeared without a word because of her stupid fear. =/\= Computer, end program. =/\= She ordered. The box falling again as the table disappeared from beneath it. She picked it up, opening it, staring at the glistening ring inside.
Silently, she took the ring out of the box, and slipped it onto her left ring finger. It fit perfectly, and simply felt right. If she hadn't already known she had made a mistake, she did now.
She stood, wiping the tears from her eyes, knowing what she wanted to do. She placed the ring back into the box, and ran back to her quarters to find a bottle of spring wine she had been saving for a special occasion. Vintage 2256, one of maybe a dozen bottles left from that year. Finally finding it, Faith used the computer to locate Jorran. =/\= Lt. Nell is in his quarters. =/\= Came the flat, uncaring responce. Bottle and box in hand, she waled as fast as she could to her lover's quarters, ready to, hopefully, make everything OK again.
Finally arriving, she pressed the chime. "Jorran? Jorran, it's me, open up." She called through the door. When no responce came, she tried again. "Jorran, please. I'm sorry. I know I hurt you, I hurt me, too. Let me in, please? I'm so, so sorry. I need to ask you something." Still no reply, which worried the young woman. =/\= Computer, locate Lt. Nell. Again. =/\= Faith said, concern in her voice.
=/\= Lt. Nell is in his quarters. =/\= The computer replied in her usual bored tone.
Not having enough authorisation to override the door lock, Faith placed the spring wine and the box that contained her future on the floor, and opened up a panel. Checking to make sure no one was looking, she engineered a small power surge to Jorran's door controls. It was small enough to open the door, but too small to be picked up by routine diagnostics, or set off any alarms. Replacing the panel, she stood in front of the door, which whooshed open in front of her. "Jorran?" She called out, as she walked into the Bajoran's quarters. It took her a few seconds to notice the man slouched, unconscious, on the couch. The bottle fell from her hand, smashing on the floor beside her. "Jorran!" She called out, dropping the box, too, as she ran over to the man she loved, the tears overwhelming her again. =/\= Keto to Sickbay. Medical emergancy in Lt. Nell's quarters. =/\=
All her basic first aid training left her as she cradled his head to her chest, gently rocking to and fro. "Jorran, what have you done to yourself?" She asked him, even though she knew he couldn't hear her. "I'm so sorry. I'm so very, very sorry." She whispered, repeating it over and over again.
