Andralyn is the eldest child of Alexander and Danaea Montgomery. As Alexander was half Betazoid and Danaea is a full Betazoid, Andralyn is not an empath like most half Betazoids, rather she is a full telepath. She is not as strong as a full Betazoid, but she can read thoughts as well as emotions of other species and is not just limited to communication with other telepaths. Though to communicate with a non-telepath takes a great deal more concentration on her part and as such she uses the talent very sparingly, having only done so once or twice in her life thus far.

Andralyn accompanied her father where possible while he carried out his duties in Starfleet, much of her family served the fleet in some manner and from an early age, Andralyn was determined to add her name to that list of dedicated officers and civilians who worked with Starfleet. Her mother Danaea was a civilian linguist and anthropologist who often was consulted by Starfleet and the Federation for her expertise. For quite a few years, Andralyn was the only child, her younger siblings Alexander and Alexandra were born when she was 19 years of age.

Andralyn attended the medical academy for seven years, graduating a year early due to a few training missions she took part in. She is a qualified doctor as well as counselor. Upon graduation she was assigned to the USS Hastings, as a doctor, but she occasionally aided the counselor on board with tending to the mental health of the crew.

A year later, she was transferred to the USS Firestorm, under Captain Francine Daniels. There she befriended the XO, Commander Asani Anraelin who took the younger officer under her wing a little, exposing Andralyn to command. Even Captain Daniels saw what Commander Asani did, Andralyn had a talent for not just seeing what she needed to be doing, but what others needed to be doing too and her cool head under stress was another great quality of a commander.

During the Dominion Occupation of Betazed, Andralyn was visiting family there and got trapped on the planet. She met Nathan Troye as well as Alexander McCormick, she would later serve with both men on Outpost 42. Upon surviving that ordeal, she returned to her post feeling somewhat inadequate. She was skilled with phasers and the like, but she realized the limitations of those weapons, they were reliant on power sources which sometimes were unavailable in the situation she was faced with. She confided in Commander Asani, who then trained her in a weaponless defense technique of her people, the Maerynians. The Commander also introduced Andralyn to blade weapons as well as pole weapons. The Maeryn techniques are still practiced by Andralyn to this day, both to maintain skill in the field and for the physical benefits of the pattern dances performed in the practice of the techniques.

Later that year, the Firestorm responded to a distress signal of the USS Lancer, a ship commanded by her father. Andralyn's last contact with her father was his distress call to the ship, by the time they arrived, there were only a handful of survivors, Captain Alexander Montgomery was not among them. Captain Daniels gave Andralyn permission to accompany his body back to Earth.

Another great test to Andralyn's career came during her service on the USS Invincible. Captain Thomas Morrison and five away team members were killed while on the planet Cirrys V. This included Lieutenant Mark Harrison, a man Andralyn was romantically involved with and believed that one day she would marry. She was named acting first officer when the actual first officer proved medically unable to take command and the second officer and Chief helmsman, Lieutenant Commander Tierney Fitzpatrick assumed control of the ship.

She continues to remain in contact with both Captain Asani Anraelin, CO of the Constellation and Rear Admiral Tierney Fitzpatrick, assigned to Starfleet Command. She is particularly close to Fitzpatrick, due to the tense situation aboard the Invincible after the Captain's demise and the XO's loss of mental control on the situation.

After the Invincible, she did a few independent research projects, taking a break from starship duty, however, she soon returned, unable to stand the quiet of research. Her first assignment was Outpost 42, where she continues to serve to present day.
