Character Personality

Quiet and reserved, optimistic and full of good cheer, Larissa is interested in how and why things work. As a result, she has excellent mechanical skills. Larissa tends to be a risk-taker, who lives for the moment. Since she must sublimate her personality a great deal while serving in the fleet, Larissa has become a bit of a discreet (and anonymous) practical joker. She's interested in, and talented at, extreme sports - Larissa was once a rising star on the collegiate Parises Squares circuit, until a knee injury ended that career. Uncomplicated in her desires, Larissa tends to appear very laid back and "type B" - though in truth, she holds herself to a very high professional standard. She's loyal to her peers, and to her internal value system, but not overly concerned with respecting laws and rules if they get in the way of getting something done. Detached and analytical (yet deeply emotional below the surface), Larissa excels at finding solutions to practical problems, and adapting to the demands of the moment. Having dealt with a large variety of races and situations, very little within the scope of her position fazes her anymore. As an active person, Larissa is often jokingly compared to a Jem Hadar soldier. In fact, she rarely uses her office desk or chair, preferring instead to stand while working. This not only serves to keep her in shape, but affords her many a free drink when on shore leave.

Larissa tends to listen more than talk, and in this way, absorbs a great deal of information from a variety of sources.

She likes and needs to spend time alone, because this is when she can sort things out in her mind most clearly. When over-stressed though, she may exhibit rash emotional outbursts of anger, or on the other extreme may be overwhelmed by emotions and feelings. On the rare occasion when Larissa is down on herself, she will foray into the world of value judgments - a place which is not natural for her - and judge herself by her inability to perform some task. She will then approach the task in a grim emotional state, expecting the worst. Larissa can be a bit of a procrastinator, putting off non-essential things until they force themselves to the forefront.

Larissa is also the quintessential homebody, and a pack-rat. Her office is filled with replicated (and antique) volumes of both work-related and inspirational texts. Her quarters is a veritable collage of items which hold personal significance, from holo-photos to old-fashioned scrapbooks to knick-knacks. She is a decent cook (though she has trouble programming replicators, and must rely on the old-fashioned method). Larissa's weekly regimen includes regular contact with her parents (especially her mother) back on Earth - which is also her preferred choice for leave. Larissa has a love for water, and exercises in a zero-G pool when off-duty. Her personal logs tend to be quite prolific, as she relies upon them as a creative outlet. She has a love of holo-novels, especially murder mysteries. Other hobbies include: reading (particularly historical, metaphysical, and supernatural non-fiction); hiking; and learning about new cultures and languages. Her dislikes include: most vegetables; spiders.
