Charlotte was born to a half Betazoid, half Human father and a fully Betazoid mother. She comes from a long line of Starfleet Officers, but she is the first medical doctor in the family, having been inspired to join medicine by a family friend, the late Doctor Miranda Collingwood.

Charlotte is the oldest child of her parents, having two younger brothers and three younger sisters, the Kingston siblings would either accompany a parent on their tour of duty if permitted or stay with their father's younger sister, Sarah, a civilian archeologist professor who made her home in London, England.

At age 18, Charlotte was accepted into the Medical Academy and she graduated in the top ten of her class. Her areas of expertise in medicine include emergency medicine, pathology and a growing interest in forensic medicine and she is an excellent surgeon.

She previously served on the USS Ottawa and the USS Gatineau prior to coming to Oed V for a change in pace, interested in the prospect of serving on a project that promised to be markedly different from the standard starship. Part of her wanted something entirely different from a starship because her immediate last assignment was on the Ottawa and it ended when the ship was destroyed. Most of the crew managed to make it off before it exploded, but there were a few who didn't, some that Charlotte counted as friends.

While she accepted the losses in a healthy manner, she's still coping with some of her feelings in regard to that incident.
