: : : : : : The Klingon smiled briefly as he was greeted in his own language. He nodded slowly to accept the seat but he did not reach his hand out to shake the Cardassian's hand. With a jerky move he sat his heavy body down on the seat.
: : : : :
: : : : : The doctor pulled his hand back, unaffected by the Klingon's snub.
: : : : :
: : : : : "I am here as part of a special program between the Federation and the Cardassian government. Groups of people from various stations in life are exchanged and they live among the other's culture, and exchange program, if you will. I am here as a counselor, for lack of a better word, to get to better understand the human mind."
: : : : :
: : : : : I see you are half Klingon. I imagine that must have been difficult for you growing up."
: : : : :
: : : : : Dr. Rakten Lis
: : : :
: : : : Kargan rose his head and looked into the Cardassian's eyes.
: : : :
: : : : "Quite the contrary, the Klingon society runs on ability, not looks - if you can kill, think and act like a Klingon then you are a Klingon. It was here that people started getting strange, I was assigned here against my own will by my father" his voice was still rather low and monotone.
: : : :
: : : : "Tell me friend, are you enjoying your stay on this vessel... or would you rather be elsewhere?" Kargans voice started to change - some emotions were poured into his words and it seemed like he expected a certain answer from the Cardassian.

: : : "What better place to observe humans, and other federation members, than on a ship such as this. There are the ranking officers, confident and in the role of teachers and mentors. Veterans, doing their duty as they have been trained. Cadets, running around, bumping into things trying to prove themselves. All of which combine for a wonderful opportunity to analyse what makes each of them function as both individual and as part of the whole. It is quite fascinating. I could think of no other place that I'd rather be."
: : :
: : : "What of yourself - I would imagine these young, wet-behind-the-ear cadets and all their frantic musing must try your patience, even a little bit? Perhaps enough to make you wish for glorious battle somewhere?"
: : :
: : : Dr. Rakten Lis, counselor
: :
: : The Klingon grunted - it was not the answer he wanted to hear. He had a plan in his head but it was missing pieces, with the help of the Cardassian he could fill in the gaps with perfectly fitting pieces or he could jam any random piece until it fits.
: :
: : "I don't know and I don't care about what happens on this vessel, I get my orders and I carry them out, any spare time I spend here drinking, I don't speak to no one and no one speaks to me, I do not belong here" as usually his voice was monotone and very deep, it somewhat sounded sad too.
: :
: : He dropped his head slightly and mumbled a few quiet words to himself in Klingon , as if he was complaining about something.

:
: The Cardassian gave a slight nod, silent agreement to the Klingon's sentiments. "Truth to tell, I can't say that I belong here or that it was my first choice. However, I shall do my job and observe and learn about how the humans think. I refuse to let the situation dictate my mood. I know that type of optimism is not usually a Klingon trait, but I sincerely think it will help you. Whether or not either of us will...'belong' here, only time will tell."
:
: The Cardassians eyes lit up, as if he just remembered something important.
:
: "I must say, that I am glad to see you on board... I don't mean you personally, but someone who doesn't whine and talk about their problems as much as these people do. I can't believe they have lasted as long as they have."
:
: He didn't think the Klingon would take offense at that, being half-human, though he would never apologize for his statement anyway. In his eyes, it was absolutely true.
:
: Dr. Lis, counselor

The Klingon smiled slightly at Lis but he was hardly touched by what Cardassian said.

"You know what, Rakten , you have this thing that makes me not want to rip your head off with my bare hands" his smile sparked up more as he spoke, his voice wasn't monotone but instead it had a hint of laughter.
