Background:

Matthew (more commonly known as “Junior”) entered Starfleet academy aged 16 and struggled through many of his academic exams, he successfully completed his Academy training and was assigned to the USS Ironclad, where he excelled at his work and further studies. After a number of years, Matthew was promoted to Commander and transferred to the USS Forrester as Chief Medical Officer, however after a short time he went AWOL. Matthew claimed that his CO had granted him leave – something the CO denied.

After much deliberation, Matthew was demoted and re-assigned. Shortly into his new assignment there was an incident between Matthew and his former CO (now an Admiral). Matthew was subsequently demoted again and spent 6 months in the brig on Starbase 157. After his release, an old friend was in need of a CMO and requested Matthew’s re-assignment to the Athena. On the day of his transfer he was involved in a bar fight, again with his former CO. The resulting investigation saw Matthew demoted yet again and as such was relieved of his CMO duties – It was later discovered that this time the brawl had been started by the Admiral, however the next time the Athena docked at Starbase, Matthew was arrested for a crime that it later transpired he had not committed.

Physiological:

During his time in prison, Matthew saw many counsellors who attempted to find out what went wrong with Matthew’s seemingly spotless record. Several have suggested that the loss of a close friend has tipped Matthew, however they believe he has now got over this loss. At no stage has any counsellor even suggested that Matthew is unfit for duty.
