“They’re coming,” He said, grabbing the arm of his wife and pulling her down the corridor. The entire building shook violently, throwing them off balance.

“They are my people!” His wife cried out. “Let me at least speak to them!”

“It’s too late for that!” He told her, taking her hand, looking into her eyes. “This is war now. We have to keep you safe.”

“And what of our son?” She asked, tears forming in her eyes.

“He made his choice,” He said, shaking his head. “He may be our only hope. Now RUN!”

The two of them ran down the corridor towards the lift. Outside the black of night was lit by the bright lights of their enemy. Explosions sounded, screams echoed, children’s cries rang through the buildings.

The two of them ran into the lift and the doors closed. For one brief moment everything was quiet. The man tapped the comm badge on his chest. =/\= “Son, are you safe?” =/\=

=/\= “I’m at the hangar now, Dad,” =/\= Came the reply. =/\= “I can do this. You just keep Mom alive.” =/\=

“Don’t do this son!” The woman called out, clinging to her husbands chest. “We can find another way!”

=/\= “This is the way,” =/\= Their son’s voice said. =/\= “I’m going to make everything right. I love you.” =/\= There was a slight chirp as the connection was terminated.

The lift stopped and the two ran into the open night air. The beings of light flew through the night air, searching for their targets. Bursts of their psionic energy were used as weapons, targeting the underground buildings mostly.

A siren rang out in the night. “They’ve discovered an intruder in the main hangar,” The man said, to which his wife gave him a panicked look. He held up his hand. “Don’t worry, he will be fine. He knows how to take care of himself. We have to get to the control center!”

The ran down the path and then veered off to the left and into the trees. The beings of light payed no mind to the dozens of people running around above ground. They had come for a single purpose this time and seemed determined to find what and who they were looking for.

As the two made their way to the top of the ridge, they heard a loud explosion. The woman covered her eyes as a ball of fire erupted from the top of the hangar building. The doors had been blasted open. As they watched a ship flew out of the hangar, heading for space. It only took the beings of light a moment to notice and follow in close persuit, hurling balls of energy at the ship.

“Come on!” The man called out, watching as the ship climbed higher and higher, dodging most of the attack.

One energy burst hit the ship and sparks flew from one of the nacelles. The woman screamed, burying her face in her husband’s shoulder.

“He’s almost out of the atmosphere,” The man said, pointing. The woman looked, the ship and the beings of light small dots in the night sky.

They watched for a few moments longer and then her husband pointed to a spot in the stars. “There!” As he pointed, they could see a vortex appear for a brief second and then disappear.

The man took his wife’s hand and kissed it. “He’s going to change history.”
