Description: Maria Becket is a curvy young woman almost to her mid thirties with dark eyes and wavy black tresses that hang down around her shoulders. She bears an unconscious grace as she moves and her eyes seem to take in everything around her. The following image was taken a few weeks before entering the Academy.

HISTORY
Born to Matthew and Amber Becket, Maria spent more time jumping from system to system as her parents fell into cargo runs, hauling food, medical supplies, and the like where they needed to go. The upside was constantly being exposed to various cultures, learning how to handle the craft, being self reliant, focused, and able to handle life in space as though it were the most natural thing.

The downside of course was being constantly on the move, never any lasting friendships, always being on the job, and being stuck with one's parents. Also was the side effect of being stuck into things like holos, movies, music, and literature.

Not much of a downside there though as she found a vested interest in martial arts from a young age, as well as pursuits related to music, art, and writing, and games. Being home-schooled with very good materials gave her a rounded education, augmented by her cultural exposures.

Disaster struck though midway through her teenage years on one particularly rough mishap took place. The Atlas had entered its latest system for drop-off when the Antares-class freighter, cruising through the system at sub-warp passed through the the tail of a passing comet. Micrometeorites, normally harmless, ripped through the ship at high velocity. It was later noted that the navigational deflector had suffered a power relay failure at some earlier point. With only a skeleton crew aboard, there wasn't always time for the best maintenance. Unfortunately Amber, Maria's mother, had accidentally been hit by a passing cluster of micro-meteors which punched through the ship. The environmental fields sealed the ship stopping it from bleeding atmosphere into space, saving the rest of the crew, but it was too late for Amber.

With limited medical attention, she died almost immediately. Later, Matthew remarried in Maria's mid to late teens, giving her a step sister and half brother which she helped to help her stepmother wrangle and raise, after settling down on Earth in (placeholder)

The loss of her mother was hard to deal with, but in time she dealt with it, through counseling, physical activities, and various artistic outlets. As her primary education wound down, she found her attention turned back to the stars. Life planetside was nice, of course, but she felt at the time that it wasn't for her.

It would have been easy to simply enlist on a tramp freighter and return to space, and for a time she thought about doing that but decided that her childhood had been spent in such a fashion. After a time of evaluation and thinking, she turned her attention toward Starfleet and joined the Academy. The challenges and grueling pace of learning were steeper than she'd faced before, but after an adjustment period she found herself enjoying the work. She received a further education in general sciences, and even took a keen interest in particle physics, but her heart truly lie in the general adventure of security.

Post graduation, she was assigned to the U.S.S. Sioto. Stationed there, she served well.
