Eric is a partially Vulcan lunar terran, a human born and raised on the colony on the moon orbiting Earth. Moving with his parents to the USS Moscow at the early age of 6, Eric's only experience planetary life upon entrance to Star-Fleet Academy at the age of 19. He took on-ship and on-base learning facilities whenever possible, finding the environment of an open sky too 'alien' to live under for extended periods.

Eric was first posted to the U.S.S. Athena as a xenobiologist. There, he continued furthering his scientific work on virology. He married his partner on the project, a Xindi-Arboreal biochemist. After the traumatic experience of an alien attack on the ship and him personally, Eric developed an addiction to medically controlled sedatives and stimulants to sleep or remain alert. After it was discovered that he was falsifying requisition forms for these substances for experimental purposes, Eric suffered a demotion and re-assignment. He underwent mandatory, intensive counselling. It was during this time that he separated from his husband of eight months.

Knox became attached to biomedical sciences due to his increasing interest in virology. He was eventually re-assigned to the U.S.S. Genesis, where he eventually worked until he attained his M.D.. Still a junior officer, he was transferred to the U.S.S. Valkyrie, eventually becoming a senior Doctor and primary Medical Examiner. Eric was transferred to the U.S.S. Lexington when he accepted an offer for the Chief Medical Officer's position.

Physical Description:

Eric is mostly human. His paternal grandfather was a Vulcan. Eric has no forehead ridges, and only displays his Vulcan genes in his ears, which are visibly pointed enough to be abnormal for a human. Eric is of average height and weight, though he already has more wrinkles and grey hair than other men of his age. This is due to the physical stress resulting from the use of stimulants while on the Athena.

Psychological Background:

Knox was not exposed to Vulcan culture or methods of emotional control, leading to an emotionally volatile childhood and stay at Star-Fleet Academy. Poor impulse control was believed to be partially responsible for his developed addiction to controlled medications. Knox has been noted for genuine regret over his actions and former behaviours, however, and continues to successfully resist ongoing addiction. All ongoing penalties and additional counselling requirements have been dismissed

Eric Knox has specializations in xenobiology and virology. He has published multiple papers concerning the effects of alien viruses on humanoid tissues, and has ongoing research ties to a 'Metavirus' project, an attempt to produce a readily re-engineered virus as a medical cure for any number of ailments, including dangerous infections.
